it died... and im sad... no one ever posts any car audio stuff for me to read and thats the only thing i know about... what are yall trying to make me do, learn about my Car??!!
combining the two threads simply killed the car audio part... pretty much all i see now is shit about XM and an occasional new stereo...

Why not start some more car audio threads yourself? I'd post in them.

It hardly ever had any posts when it was strictly car audio.

I wanna put some speakers in my F150. Do you have any recommendations for an under the seat box application. I don't want alot of bump, just a good overall sound, mids, highs, whatever. Its an 05 Supercab. Also, what is a good head unit that isn't gonna cost me more than $300-$350.

What does that mean? Any hobby including all types of vehicles, home audio, guns, etc can be classified as wasting money.

From what I have seen (my buddy does installs on the side), the big ass stereo fad is slowly dieing down. 5 years ago it was huge. There are still some enthusiasts out there looking for a loud system...but the average guy buying crappy equipment for their 87 Honda has died down (THANK GOD).

Qlogic makes a nice single 10" downfire enclosure that fits great and sounds good. There are many enclosures available. There are few headunits above $300 except video anymore. I would look at the Alpine CDA-9887, CDA-9886, CDA-9885, CDA-9884, CDA-9883, and iDA-X001. Truck takes 5x7 speakers all around. Most have the tweeter location open and components will sound better than coax. 5x7 components start at $169 for some Alpine and go up from there to around $800 for JL ZR.

Big bass systems were biggest from 88-96, IMO, and they have been decreasing in popularity since. Quality of products and installs has gone way up over the years. We get 40+ year old guys all the time that had a system when they were a kid, felt like they grew out of it, and we end up putting something louder but better sounding in and they love it. Music is fun and you should be able to feel it and hear it.
Unfortunately, most younger people have not been exposed to good sound so they choose what they are familiar with- compressed shit. They choose quantity(5,000 songs) over quality (full CD, DVD, etc). Bass is fun. It is not everything. A stereo should be able to play bass, mid, and high at a somewhat balanced volume range. A system that has 4-15" woofers and no mids and highs to keep up with it does not sound good, AND a system with mids and highs but without bass also does not sound good because there is a vital part of the musical spectrum missing.

only thing i wanna add is that im not looking to take out my back seat and put 2 15s in my truck. i want good, full sound at a moderately loud volume. not trying to kill myself.
I still think there are millions of ghetto systems out there. I just think that the older you get, the less you are exposed to them. But those kids gotta start somewhere.
I'm 30, and I'll probably always have an aftermarket system in any daily driver I own. I'm still a bass head, but the older I get the more I appreciate SQ and a slick install, and having the latest cool gadgets.
Car audio as an industry is not going anywhere.

i used to be huge into car audio.
but after a while i realized i wanted to spend my money on other things.
i still have all my stuff. none of it is expensive, but out of a lot of systems i've heard, i like mine the most. good balance of mid, high and low.
i'd post in some car audio threads if we had some.

yea i agree and thats why im a huge DIY person. theres tons of stuff you can do to your car that doesnt cost that much but takes some time to install. kinda like working on your car... its more of a hobby than something to blow your money on.
the way i think of it is i spend the majority of the time either on my computer or in my car listening to music. so i have a really good computer and a pretty good sound system in my car. common sense to me... but w.e

EW's correct on his assesment. Car Audio has evolved. Those still around in the business has evolved with it. Theres alot more OEM integration today than there ever has been. People are generally more interested into integrating into their vehicle's than going apeshit on it and ripping the oem out and going ground up all out. But for those still wanting to do so, we gladly help them :)
