"Paramount has issued a statement saying that the Financial Times story which was published earlier today claiming that Paramount was set to drop HD DVD in favor of Blu-ray is false."

The future of high def media is streaming content.
Quickly and correctly forecast the company that will be the pioneer or most commonly used and I will buy you a five pack (of lone star).
It certainly couldn't be the netflix0rz...right?

Glad you agree.
Look up "tru2way", that will bring up another new avenue coming for media delivery (HD included), with no need for extra equipment. I think it'll be a mix of a bunch of folks, the dumb-box (whoever provides it), will be the cheap part. I think the incumbent VOD providers, netflix, google (because they have their hands in everything) will help with the storage and bandwith to provide the access to the content. It'll be interesting over the next couple of years, for sure.

Yes, Warner's last minute defection has had a greatly affected HD DVD. HD DVD players outsold Blu Ray players over the holidays, but Warner pulling out has causes some serious problems for the HD DVD camp.
However, the format war is not over. You won't see anything conclusive until this summer.
HD DVD is still a very good format and the players are significantly less expensive. The picture and sound are fantastic for 1/3 of the cost. You can get a HD DVD A3 for $150

Fuck'm both.
Even though HD is cheaper, is still costs too damn much in my opinion for a little bit of entertainment in front of the tv.
Car mods and games with replay value have more value in my ring. You can only watch the same $30 2 hour movie so many times.

If 92.53% vs 7.47% isn't conclusive, I'm unsure as to what percentage would be.
One thing is for sure, I would hate to be either Universal or Paramount in the 7.47%.

HD DVD is still in the game. It's not over yet.Yeah, that 7% sales number looks really appealing to me right now, brb, going to go throw away money on an hd dvd player.
Edit: What kangol said.

First of all, those statistics are for a 2 week period. Secondly, the year to date market share of Blu-Ray players is 70%. HD DVD holds a share much greater than that 7% statistic on your little pie graph. A short term study like that doesn't mean anything substantive, it's the stats from here to May that matter.
You should look at the 2 week sales stats over Christmas. HD DVD sales were off the charts because in some places they were being sold for $100 retail.
Warner Bros. is going to continue producing HD DVD titles until May. If you have been following the format wars you can see just how fluid this situation is. Things change from month to month and week to week. 6 weeks ago Warner Bros. claimed they still supported HD DVD and there were no plans to completely abrogate their support. Then a few weeks later, we got the "official" word and there is now a time line to stop producing HD DVD titles.
There have been a significant amount of HD DVD players purchased by consumers. The titles are also cheaper as well. That still holds a lot of market appeal. Even if they lose, you still have tons of HD DVD titles available and you have an excellent up converting DVD player for standard DVDs. It's not that big of a deal either way. To me it's absurd to want or have to pay significantly more money for something that essentially does the same thing for the avg. consumer. That's why I'm a HD DVD supporter.
Oh well, we'll see how it goes. Until Toshiba decides to throw in the towel then the format war continues, regardless of your pie graph or opinion.
This is why I bought a Blu-Ray/HD DVD combo player at Jerk-It City for $400 before I left. Open box items FTMFW.

...and now?
Netflix has just announced that they will exclusively purchase Blu-ray DVDs instead of HD DVDs for their hi def rental option. While the company had formerly supported both formats, their stock of HD DVDs will be phased out completely by the end of this year and sold to Mustangman_2000. Netflix clearly agrees with everyone else that HD DVD is dead, and disco is happy to finally have some company.

I want Transformers and BattleStar Galactica on BluRay and I want it yesterday.
Fuck the format war. Both formats are going to be obsolete in 10 years anyways when most everything goes on through internet distribution. The digital downloads we're getting now is only scratching the surface.
