Picked up a secondary HD for the house for the living room. Wifey was getting tired of running up to the media room when she wanted "big screen."
Best Buy has the Panasonic 56" 1080p Rear Projection TV on sale for 996.99.
Looks like its sold out online but the dude at Best Buy (yesterday) told me they had 350-400 at the warehouse in Flower Mound.
Its a basic unit but at that price more than adequate for a budget HD or a secondary TV.

Didn't Fry's just have the Panasonic 65" for the same price?

Was a Toshiba and was for a 1-day after Christmas special. The main pro for this TV is panasonic's lifi system, which warranties the bulb for 5 years, which is unheard of for a DLP bulb-based TV.

That's right.. I think I remembered the Panasonic because it was one we looked at before getting ours.
They still have it on Amazon BTW, still with the higher price.

Maybe some of you more savy television people can educate me a bit here. I've briefly read the details of the TV mentioned in the first of this thread and have been trying to compare it to this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8396014&type=product&id=1179876928501 What difference is there between the two that justifies a ~$700 price difference? It appears to me that the cheaper of the two has a better picture resolution and still HD ready.

The cheaper one is better, same model but with 1080p instead of 720p. Look at the spec page. Everything is exactly the same except resolution. It's on sale and a hell of a deal. Buy it.

Good deal.
I just got DISH out here today to hookup HD to it. Not bad compared to upstairs. I like it downstairs cause I always get bitched out for watching sports or a movie after the kids go to bed since the media room is right by their bedroom.
DISH was a pain because I've hit my limit on leased receivers. Took 2 weeks and finally I got HD. I think the kicker was when I was on the phone with DISH and their "Win back" person I was also on the phone with Verizon setting up FIOS. haha.
Ended up getting one of the non-HD receivers "purchased" for free so I could free up a slot for the additional HD/recorder. They wanted $600 to purchase the HD receiver.

I've tried every way possible to locate on and it's not happening. None available online or in any stores that I can find. :(

You can find others at a similar price, try getting Circuit City to price match it, in my experience they will price match ANYTHING/ANYONE. I was just able to add it to my cart and pay for it. When they were selling it locally (which I think they still are), all of them were in the Flower Mound warehouse. You basically pay for it in store and go pick up at the FM warehouse.

I was looking at that last week when it showed up on Dealcatcher.com. I came close to ordering one.

Or pay the $60 delivery which I did. Hell, it would have been $60 in gas for me to pick it up. haha.

Did you order it from www.bestbuy.com or call the store and have it shipped to you?

Just called local store to see if they had any or one in warehouse. He said sold out everywhere. Can only get the tv online from national warehouse?
