Alpine's IVA-W505 (http://gizmodo.com/339296/alpine-iva+w505-video-headunit-plays-divx-ipod-video)! EW! We gotta talk!

Alpine's spring line continues to impress, now with a double-DIN head unit with a DivX playing 7-inch touchscreen. It also has the same iPod connectivity (and video playback to boot), IMPRINT sound mapping that compensates for the acoustic differences from car to car, HD/Sat radio readiness, and Tag & Sync (HD Radio tagging to iTunes store buying of songs) like the IDA-X100 single-din head unit. It has Bluetooth audio streaming, a video input, output, and camera backup input. And it doubles as a GPS if you were to dock the traffic-capable second generation PMD-B200 blackbird handheld into its faceplate.

Holy crap. I only read about the IDA-X100 an hour or so ago and now they've got this?
I was already looking into replacing my Alpine CDA-9887 with the IDA-X001 but now I've got a lot more choices.

yea I will take it if your giving it away ;)
So Alpine says Spring? EW, I'll be in there in Septemeber to pick one up when they finally come in. ;)
In all seriousness, it looks pretty cool. I don't think I'd ever buy anything off of Itunes, especially from my vehicle, and I don't think I'd use Imprint since I have the H701, but I do like the 7" screen.
I have no info, CES is next week. Info to follow.

Hey man, are you going to that? If so, keep your eyes and ears peeled for any new options for satellite Television in the vehicle. I'm waiting for something smaller/stealthier than that TracVision (or whatever it's called) setup. Thanks!
Cool receiver. Does anyone know if the Kenwood DPX 502 is any good? I like the fact that it has a usb port on the front for a jump drive.

Couple of things I like about it right off the bat. iPod video and album art similar to what the IDA-X100 is already doing. Just another reason to dump my Zune and get a bigger capacity iPod.

You know if you really want you can do video from your Ipod via the aux input on your W200/205 and the right cable, but you wouldn't be able to control it from the touch screen.

W505 $999 April release
Thank you sir!
W505 $999 April release
Any disadvantages compared to the W205? I know there were a couple of minor things I liked better about the W200 vs the newer 205. Like for example, did they bring the mute button back, or at least an attenuator (sp?) button? Is the interface pretty much identical? Any new colors or backgrounds?
I'll end up getting one for the 7" screen regardless, just curious about those things.
Any other super cool gadgets coming out? Maybe an Alpine brand rear camera? The one I have now stopped working in color, just b&w. Lame.
Oh, and any advances in satellite TV in the vehicle?
Yes, Alpine will have a camera for $199 HCE-C105.
Newest thing in SAT TV is Sirius TV but I doubt there will be much adult programming. THe KVH units are as big and expensive as ever unless they showed something this year at CES.
W505 has WVGA screen so the picture will be killer, S video in for iPod video, DivX playback, iTunes tagging with HD tuner allows you to hear a song and then press a button to remind you to buy it later, USB MTP that is Plays for sure compatible, single zone rear seat output with independent source control.
Picture in literature shows MUTE button on bottom row next to volume.

Awesome about the camera. I'm assuming it's color.
Awesome about the mute button!
S-video for ipod, does that still allow for full touch-screen control?
What is USB MTP and Plays?
Most importantly, what is this Sirius TV thing? Cartoons and stuff only?
Edit: I just read an article about the Sirius TV thing. Looks like it gets Nickelodeon, the Disney Channel, and Cartoon Network. Hmmm....
I just heard that this unit does not have an optical output. Eric, can you confirm?
Best thing that unit does IMPRINT. After getting my 9887 with IMPRINT, I can't wipe the smile off my face. It is amazing. Looks like a sweet piece. Does way more then I need, but cool if you want video and IPOD album art.

All the paperwork I could find did not say anything about optical. After 15 min on hold w/ Alpine tech, they confirm that it does have optical out.
They said we can pre-order 505's today.
Beej-"Imprint Ready" means get ready to pay $150 for the add-on Imprint module.

Damnit. I just learned that it's not a standard Toslink cable though. Alpine changed the plug design for the optical output and you have to buy their new cable/adapter to run a digital signal. They said they will be around $100, WTF?! They also said they "should" be available next month.
I'm disappointed, but I'll still end up going this route.
