I can't seem to find anything that shows it off quite like the first battle scene in Master and Commander...... you can clearly hear the above and below deck action when all the chaos begins on the ship - sounds like someone is walking on the roof from the back of the room to the front...

As far as music I have a Jeff Beck with Jan Hammer live CD and it shows off some very low keyboard bass along with some very good highs...

Of course U-571 and Open Range are good as well with directional sound effects..

What do you have?

Matrix, first one...part where neo first figures out how to dodge bullets...all the way up to the helo smashing into the building.

---This is for home theater sound showoff - not visual per se.

Casino Royale, around the first action scene/snake pit. Pure 1080p/24 and it looks phenomenal - HD-DVD, I have the Discovery Planet Earth box set that looks amazing. Also, Ray looks extremely good, so much clarity you can clearly see the pits in his face/skin.

I was watching and HD showing of Elvis Costello and you could see the individual drops of sweat that were collecting on the end of his facial hair... some of them were breaking the light out into tiny rainbows..

What about sound ? Special effects?

Saving Private Ryan and Flags of Our Fathers also are recorded very well...

5th Element with Bruce Willis is a very good test/show off DVD.

I can imagine the opera scene would be good.

Behind Enemy Lines, when the missiles are chasing the plane is a great way to show off a home entertainment system.

For my home system, I like Stealth. The opening scene is pretty cool. LOTR and 300 are pretty sweet as well.

For the truck, where my real system is, I have several. For showing off the bass/loudness, I will pop in Bass Mekanik, 311, Deftones, or Three Six Mafia. For SQ, I'll pop in the Eagles Farewell Tour concert DVD and play Hotel California.

the first battle scene from gladiator is amazing for demo of movie surround sound. hand to hand battling up front, catapults behind you on the right and arrows behind you on your left. it's dts es 6.1, very clear seperation.

There was a good scene in Hart's war, only lasts about 20 seconds though where there are airplanes coming overhead. I about crapped my pants the first time, that was the first action movie I'd heard with my new SVS sub.
