How often does a car/truck need a good wax & polish job done by a good detailer? The detail shops where I live at (Corpus Christi,TX) said that I should have it done once a month. Is this true or are they just trying to get $$$ from me?

I think alot of it depends on what quality wax they use. If there using there industrial bucket of cheapest wax they can find then yeah you would need it every month. If you can find a good detailer that uses something like Meguiars or Zaino the you could probably have it done 2/3 times a year.

It all depends on what wax you use. Some waxes are completely gone in a matter of just 3-4 weeks, while others last months. Another thing to consider is how you treat your vehicle. Leaving it outside 24/7, exposed to all of the harsh elliments is obviously more damaging to the wax than a car that sits in a garage most of the time.
So, if they are using cheap waxes, and expecting you to leave your car outside 24/7, then yes they are correct.

Good point! But if he chooses a good wax and keeps his car in a garage, he should still get a few months worth.

The shop I have heard really good things about use 100% Paste Carnauba Wax. Is that good or not? BTW, the car does sit outside 24/7.

It depends on the percentage of Caranauba used in the wax. Higher the percentage, the better the wax is. Just because they say Carnauba wax, doesn't mean it's good wax ;)

The guy said that it is 100% Carnauba wax, not the stuff you by at autozone or pep boys.

Well, you can take that statement a couple of different ways.
1-the bottle that they get their wax out of is 100% carnauba wax, no other ingredients in that bottle what so ever(not likely).
2- the bottle that they get their wax out of is 30% carnauba wax and 70% all other ingredients, but that 30% is 100% carnauba(more likely of the 2).
If you read most all bottles that claim 100%, what they say is"uses 100% carnauba", not that the bottle is 100% carnauba.
Does this make sense? Heck, I'm even confusing myself :( :D
