Bit by bit we're selling off our country...

Investment bank Morgan Stanley said Wednesday it sold a portion of itself to China Investment Corp., an investment arm of the Chinese government, for $5 billion to raise capital after taking $9.4 billion in writedowns on mortgage-related investments.

Selling out little by little has been a concern of mine since I first became interested in our country's life.

Why would we need to share our capitalist economy with another country?

That's pretty much the point of capitalism.

LMAO...That's exactly what went thru my head after hitting the submit button.

I'm trying to figure out how to say what I'm thinking.

Some of our toll roads are owned by companies from another country. Does this hurt or benefit our economy? I can see it doing both, but I am not as knowledgeable as I should be in this feild.

back in the 80's there was a stink about how the japanese were buying u.s. property and companies left and right.

news like this isn't good to hear, but it's been occurring for quite some time.

it's called Laissez-faire.

We were still net investors in the world in the 80s. Today, we're net "investees" (for lack of a better world).

A little different than the 80s. Also the deals that are going on are all subprime type of deals. Citi paying over 10% for their money. Sad shit.

This economy is broken and the man behind the curtain is about to be revealed. Maybe not next year, maybe not in 2009, but pretty soon if things don't change.

You've barely scratched the surface. Citibank sold 11% of itself to Dubai.

What about the trillions of dollars in government bonds that China, Japan and many other countries own? That's how our annual $300 billion deficits are financed, by the US government borrowing in the form of bonds. And the payments on these loans? Congress borrows money (more foreign bonds) just to pay the interest, no principle.

We nearly defaulted on the interest payments earlier this year. The Japanese & Chinese have become very reluctant to buy any more bonds, but they have to. If they don't, the US would default and that would begin a worldwide economic meltdown that make the Great Depression look like a garden party.

And now a majority of large US corporations have been hollowed out, with no real US assets other than a sales office & thier consumers.

Our own greed has been used to totally undermine us.

Krushchev is dead, and so is the USSR. His master plan stunk. The Japs can't eat all those cars, can they? Who buys the majority of them...us. I don't particularly like the situation, but I'm not going to slit my wrist, either. This is the very reason I voted for Ross Perot back in '92. He KNEW what was coming, because he was/is a businessman, and knows this country should be run like a business. No one has done it since that election.

Your right. But my Kruschev quote was not to say the USSR did us in, but to point out that if the US were "taken down", we would be the primary instrument of that. In a sense Krushchev was correct.

That said, I don't write off the USA at all. But the current circumstances make for a possible "perfect storm".

I voted for Perot too, virtually all of his predictions came true.
