I live in an apt and it seems it's really cold in the living room due to the glass doors off the balcony. Can I put something like this insulation on the windows to help? Or what is a good suggestion?

Some big sheets of Rmax should do the trick.

Look for the clear plastic sheets that shrink with a hair dryer. We used those on every window when I was in northern Michigan. They often come with double-sided tape to stick it to the window frame. Then you take a hair dryer to it to shrink it tight so it is pretty much invisible like having an extra layer of window glass. It seals any open cracks and provides an air pocket between you and the outside.
