Jan - May = nothing
May - August = gained maybe 20 or so lbs in just about every lift
August - Dec = lost most of it

:(

But congrats on your progress Greg.

I'm ending the year in basically the same place I started. Moving cross country, new jobs, and all that ruined about 6 months in the gym, for me. At least the last month I've been able to get back to work, 2008 is gonna be my best year ever.

ironic I see this post today. I just went to the dr. to get some meds. Haven't been in over a year. I have lost 34#'s since then, but I don't think I started working out until last Nov. or Dec., so I would say 34#'s in 12 months, but I was hitting the weights pretty hard there for a while so I am sure I put on muscle mass and lost a lot of fat, so I am hoping that it at least looks like I lost more than 34#'s.

I started the year the heaviest I have ever been after being on crutches for 5 months because of a knee injury. Basically had to start from zero on running, or walking for that matter. Right now i am down 40 pounds, had a goal of 70 total, but seem to be stuck right now at my current weight. Have done a few 10K runs and 100K bike rides this year. Also did a 12 mile run by myself. Im lifting a little more, but not really keeping track of it, cardio is more important to me. Also for the first time in 7 years or so I can wear shirts that the size does not start with a X. Looking forward more results next year.

Sure did. It's amazing what happens when you go from a liquid diet and eating once a day to not drinking/smoking and eating 5-6 times a day and eating the right foods combined with a good workout. I was very underweight for my height before (I'm 6 foot) and now I actually look a bit more normal....

I started dieting and cardio on May 31st, weighing in @ 159 lbs with a 32" waist. By June 30th I was 144lbs and had a 30" waist. I started going to the gym, lifting weights, and started to trade fat for muscle.

July 1st -
Walking weight: 146lbs
Waist: 30"

Bench: 155 lbs
Dead: 265 lbs
Squat: 275 lbs

As of 12/08 -

Walking weight: 153 lbs
Waist: 29"

Bench: 235 lbs
Dead: 445 lbs
Squat: 405 lbs

Had you just admitted you lost and left it at that, your credibility/respect factor would be much higher. Now your pride has taken you from a bad position to a worse position and you don't even see it. Yet another big difference between a fighter and a brawler - intelligence.

It all depends on the pace you are running it at, and Fred hasn't said anything about his running pace or how often he does it. I would have no problem running 5 miles at any given time during the year. now if you wan't me to run that 5 miles in under 30min or less, it'll take me a month or two to get there, but 5 miles with no limits except you can't stop running is no problem at all.

My squat has gone from 315 to 405. That was just since summer though. Not sure what my max was in January.

Bench went from 205 to 255, although I'm pretty sure I got up 245 early this year one night. So it's varied.

I went from only being able to run a little over a mile to doing 5 miles without being completely dead.

Fred take it easy man. LOL I am just calling BS on the 5 miles. Where cool. But im not gonna blow smoke up your ass. Im gonna call it like I see it. You can't do 5 miles straight even at the lowest setting which is a light jog at 6.0 on the tread mill let alone on concrete.

Im just saying be honest with yourself. You don't have to lie & say you can do 5 miles when anyone who runs knows 5 miles is for marothon runners. But not for your average Joe. Hell let alone your average joe who runs 2 miles a day everyday. It can be done. But 5 miles is alot.

I run, a shit ton. 5 miles is not for marathon runners. 12 or so is.

I will say this. The more you open your mouth the more it infurates me & only lights a fire in me you can't put out.

I was begining to like you. But your constant doubt that I am so street punk only motivates my ass whoopin I am going to give you come Feb 8 or 9th.

If I was you. I would shut your mouth & focus on cardio. YOUR GONNA NEED WHEN YOU FIGHT ME

Gonna need cardio? You barely survive 2 miles by your own admition.

I broke my leg and couldnt work out for 6 months. I got started back in september. I weighed 224. Im down to 210. Everything is up to the most ive ever done in my life as far as max everything. I quit drinking soda's. Ive been eating alot better. I run about 4 times a week. I go lift about 3 times a week. Slowly all my clothes are starting to get bigger. I will say its hard as shit to keep doing it though. Hopefully ill be able to keep doing it into next year and get down to around 200. :D

First time visitor to this part of the board and I see the interpersonal relationships are the same as other forums.

For me personally, in August I quit smoking after about 33 years, following cardiac and pulminary failure a couple of years ago. Lung capacity @ 20% of the average for my age. At 50 years, 6'1", 150#, I had quite a project ahead of me.

Since August, gained 25#, cleaned up the diet a little bit (was pretty good before, just wasn't processing food the right ways) and got a fitness membership w/personal trainer after selling some vacation time. Slowly building up cardio and muscle tone (to alleviate lower back pain and pinched nerve) so when I go back for my lung capacity test in February I don't have to consider dual lung replacement.

For everyone working out, regardless of level, thanks for the inspiration.

Well, for the first time since I got my free weights on 12-27-06, I was able to get a max on bench last night. This time last year I was four months into my diet/exercise program. I had gone from 215 down to 190 with diet, cardio, and a Bowflex. In December, I sold the Bowflex and bought an olympic bench, plates, and a full set of dumbbells up through 55's, created a 3-day a week lifting routine and went at it.

I don't really put much emphasis on max numbers. Without having a workout partner to properly spot exhaustion sets, max's, etc., I've had to focus emphasis on overall strength through reps, ability to regularly increase weight used, and the way I look and feel. But, the rare opportunity I get to max on something, I'll take it.

Last year my max on bench was 165. Last night, my brother in-law came over and wanted to see how I had progressed. I weigh 175 now and put up 205. I know it's not much to some, but to me, it felt good. I'm 30 years old and in better shape and stronger than I have ever been. In high school I was much lighter at 140lbs., but I was weak and couldn't even bench my own body weight. I've progressed across the board in every exercise I do. Looking at the numbers I started out with compared to what I'm doing now is pretty cool.

I'll turn 31 in August and I've still got 6-7 pounds of gut I'd like to lose by then. I think that's my next goal, get down to 165-167 and bench 250.

I'd like my cardio to be better too. Going 4-5 rounds in a row without getting too gassed and without getting tapped would be nice. Far off as it may be, the day I can say I tapped Wario would be an accomplishment in itself. :)
