Windows XP - New monitor help

I have a new Sony monitor that I want to install on my system that is running XP - I have the driver - but the instructions say first the plug an play will recognise the new monitor and then it goes into set up instructions --

I have the Sony pluged in and have tried rebooting a couple of times - no plug and play recognition

How can I force the computer to "SEE" the new monitor?

goto Device manager in the control panel. You should have something listed under monitor. Remove whatever monitor is listed. Reboot, and it 'should' find the new one.

If the monitor doesn't show up in Device Manager, go to the top of the list, right click on My Computer, and select, scan for new devices....
