im pretty ignorant to the AR world but have heard a few names dropped but not these http://www.dfwstangs.net/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=71627&sort=1&cat=26&page=1

im interested in picking up one and this appeared to be a decent deal what do ya'll have to say about the manufacturers?

not trying to bash the ad just trying to learn about the 8 billion AR makers.

RRA and CMMG are both quality AR mfgs and suppliers etc.

However, Im not up on pricing in the AR game.

Any local shops around here to pick up a lower?

Im planning on building an AR in the next few weeks, looking for an Armalite, Bushmaster, or maybe a Rock River...

Found some good prices here, but he doesnt have a storefront, you have to order it and get it shipped to a local FFL... :(

Robbie is at all the gun shows.

CTD! sometimes has complete lowers, but you will be paying more.

Yeah, but im assuming because he makes you ship it to a FFL you still cant just pick it up from him at the gunshow? Or can you? (Is it a problem of him doing background checks, or ?)
I just didnt really want to mess with doing that because by the time I pay the $16 shipping, plus $25 FFL transfer, and state tax, I wouldnt really be saving much over just messing with a mail order lower from out of state... :o

I have ordered from this guy many times scott-

http://www.ar15sales.com/rracomp.htm

His name is pete and he has 100% feedback on ar15.com. His prices are so low that the other sellers got mad at him for posting them, so you have to call him up. Nice guy, and the best prices I have seen by far on quality Rock River parts.

And never buy a complete rifle or even a "half" at that. Its so much cheaper, and VERY easy to start with a stripped lower reciever and assemble the rifle to your liking. I didnt use any specialty tools for the entire lower either, albeit the upper will require a barrel vice (30 bucks).

As far as brands go, Rock River has the tightest tolerances and just good awarded a 5 year contract with the DEA, FBI, and CIA. I figure if its got enough for them, it ought to be good enough for me!

If your going to be in DFW over the break scott, your more than welcome to shoot it, or after the break I can bring it down. LMK

I ordered a High Standard lower over the phone from them and picked it up at the next gun in FW. Just did the standard background check and I was out the door. He also had a bunch of them on the table. Looks like he will be at Market Hall Jan 5-6.

1)You walk in to the show
2) Find Robbies table.
3)Pic the lower you want
4) Fill out the form 4473
5) They call NICS
6) you go home with a new lower. :D

He is just like every other dealer at the shows. They have credit card machines and phones lines.

Sweet, good deal! I was just unsure if he did the paperwork or not, his website kinda makes it sound like you need to have your paperwork done at the FFL youre picking it up at...(even if youre local)
Sure wish he was going to another gun show besides the 5/6th, I wont be here...:(

So far, hes the best deal ive found on complete lowers...(Ill probably just order an Armalite/M4 stock) complete for $240 aint bad....

If you buy the two "parts" complete, yes...
You will need a stock with your lower, but thats no biggie...

Mags(30rnd) are in the $10 range right now I believe, but sometimes go up and down in price...

stripped down 24inch bull would be ok. Not so worried about the tactical thing.

FYI, the 6.8 cal barrells and bolt are a awsome swap for AR style rifles. Bigger cal bullet without changing the lower, carrier, upper, etc. You can find Bull barrels in 6.8 for $250 that come with bolt, basically everyting you need to convert.

And you get what you pay for. Cheap guns 'Act' cheap. All mine run flawlessly

Having gone to several gun shows and looking at them online, in the mags, etc. I think the best buys are at the gun shows or a used one in a forum like this from a local you can trust.

I shot a Bushmaster carbine at the range recently. It is a solid piece. Friends have Colts, they are top notch as well. I also like the Rock River Arms but I heard their internal dimensions prevent them from being as interchangeable as other makes.
I haven't shot one yet.

Black rifles are the fox body mustang of the firearm world. All sorts of parts to put on, and the basic ones are great. Just keep it oiled and fed.

Lots and lots of possibilities with these things. From a 9mm pistol config to a .338 Lapua, .458 SOCOM, or .450 Bushmaster. .204 Ruger is covered as well as WSSM, WSM and SAUM new short magnums. And that is just the caliber.

Left handed or right handed?

16in, 20in, or 24in barrel? Rifle twist: 1:8, 1:9:,1:7?
fluted barrel, bull barrel?

whats the easiest way to have the lower shipped anyone on here legal?

Yale
12-08-2007, 01:25 AM
Go to a gun shop and have them fax the FFL to the dealer you're buying from. Most places charge a small fee to handle the transfer. $20-30. Shipping should be a similar amount. I'm betting you'll be out no more than $350 for a good lower sent your way. I don't know why, but I'm kind of proud of you for making this step. A man's first AR is a thing to be proud of.

i had a Mini-14 for a while but traded it for a deer rifle but i liked the 223 thing. Im thinking DPMS non adjustable lower and the DPMS flat top 24inch stainless bull barrel . Put a half decent scope and then shoot turkeys from 300+ yards away.

Why would you order a lower for $250 that tacks on shipping $20 and FFL fee $20-$50when you can buy one local for $210-240?

Id much rather pick one up locally than mess with shipping, especially if its going to be cheaper...

Can you get DPMS stuff locally for that? I'll admit I haven't been looking around, but I thought it'd end up cheaper in the long run. My bad.

37mm ones dont, 40mm one do. 37mm can if you plan on shooting anything outside of flares.

The individual rounds arent registered, but if you intend to shoot them out of a 37mm launcher. Then your 37mm laucher is an unregistered DD.

They did have some DPMS stuff, but I didnt really look at the prices....

Military gun supply also had some complete lowers, they had a Bushmaster in the $280 range(still more expensive than lonestar)

Ray's Sporting goods was selling M4 Armalites about a year ago for $830 with a case and two magazines... Also had a hell of a deal on .223 and I bought everything he had.

Good folks too, just have to know prices on stuff before you walk in.
