This is how we need to deal with the issue of Gun being used in crimes. Prosecute the criminals faster, not take away guns altogether. Finally some common sense in the government.

Three Counties to Swiftly Move Serious Gun Cases Through the Courts
Trenton, NJ – Governor Jon S. Corzine and Attorney General Anne Milgram today announced a pilot gun strategy that will streamline the process for handling serious gun cases in three major counties to move them as quickly as possible through the court system. The pilot program, designed with the cooperation of Essex County Prosecutor Paula T. Dow, Acting Camden County Prosecutor Joshua Ottenberg, Mercer County Prosecutor Joseph L. Bocchini, Jr., and the Administrative Office of the Courts, will be launched in the counties in January.
"Gun violence in New Jersey and across America is stealing young lives and killing innocent people. Together, we must all do more to provide security for our communities and families," Corzine said. "By fast-tracking serious gun cases through our courts, we will send a message that if you use a gun to commit a crime, we will catch you and the penalty will be both harsh and swift."
“Gun cases often involve gang members who pose a serious threat to our communities,’’ Milgram said. “Any delay can make it harder for the state to prove its cases and unfortunately can provide more time for gangs to try to intimidate witnesses. In such instances, justice delayed is justice denied.’’
Milgram said the Division of Criminal Justice and the county prosecutors will work together to prepare serious gun cases for trial as quickly as possible. “We will work together to make certain that police reports and forensic examination reports are prepared expeditiously so that there is no unnecessary delay in providing complete discovery to the defense,” she said.
The Attorney General and the prosecutors developed two model projects for the pilot program. Serious gun cases are those involving first and second degree offenses committed with a gun such as assault, robbery, and kidnapping, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. In Essex County, they will also include Newark/Irvington CeaseFire gun cases.
