It's an early gun. Since Walther's official production run started with AC 480 guns, which then switched codes to AC40, AC41, etc etc until the end of the war.
Price will vary on condition and which block the gun is in. AC40 guns went from althe way to 9999a to 9999b. Ive seen early "a" block guns all matching mint bring almost $2k on a buyers market. Depending on the block and capture paper along with condition yours may bring as much.
Definately only early P38s bring good money, every other one is only worth $700ish.

capture paper?
Well by "law" anything a GI captured he had to fill out a form declaring the item as a war souvenir. Of course not all GIs did this as most just shoved shit in duffle bags or boxes and shipped them home privately etc.
Capture papers always increase prices of war guns because then someone can trace the history back to where the gun was captured, captured by who, etc.

It's at least worth $1500 if it's in 90% shape whether a mid-late "a" or "b" block. Like I said, it's a early production gun. If it's a early "a" block the more it becomes etc. Some early "a" blocks etc are listed in the $3k-$4k range.

I like looking and shooting at my stuff. There's nothing wrong with shooting it, just maintain it.
