Been doing a lot of work around here. Trying to maximize the space in the living room since it's not too large.

First thing we did was to hang the TV on the fireplace. Thanks to ClockwrkOrangeS4 for the install help!

Next was installing the "in wall" rear channel speakers. Previous speakers were larger bookshelf style speakers on stands. They had a bad habbit of getting in the way, and people bumping into them. Don't mind the extra cuts, and nail holes. Stupid stud finder was a piece of crap! :mad:

Next was the biggest project of all. Moving all of the components into the closet. I'm still not completely finished with it yet,but at least it's operational now.

So thats it for now. I'll get more pics up as the work progresses. Probably done till after Christmas. Get back on it after the first of the year. But at least it's all up and running now.

Off to watch a movie!!! :D

What about heat issues within the closet? Is there a fan or something in there?

So far, I haven't had any issues. But I know it's coming. That amp kicks out a lot of heat! I have a plan to put in a vent on the left side of the closet. You wouldn't be able to see it from anywhere in the living room. Maybe also add a fan in the vent.

Well, for right now, I'm leaving the door open when anything in there is running. After Christmas, I'm going to install that vent in the wall, and then I should be able to leave the door closed all the time.

I think you did really well with the install... looks like a big task getting all the wiring into the closet!

Yeah, took 2 days to run all the wires. That was a pain, but worth it in the end.

The rear channels are a little higher than what I originally wanted. But due to the structure of the house, where they are was my only option :(

Rack looks good. How do you get to the back of it? I saw in one of the HT magazines a cool revolving rack that would let you slide the entire component rack out partially, then swivel it. they are pricey, and its not like you need to get back there very often. You could build a small cart or chassis with casters so you could roll it out to get at the back for cable mgmt or MAC components.

I'm cheap and wouldn't want to pay the $$ they are asking but could probably use their design to DIY something as functional.

Like you said, you really don't need to get back there very often. I just lean back behind the components to get back there, or pull them out a little bit. No need to buy that expensive rack.....at least not for me.

I had to buy an RF system. Bought the Harmony 890 remote. Without it, nothing would have worked.
With the 890, everything works flawlessly. No delay what so ever. Love it :D

No need to buy that expensive rack.....at least not for me.

Yeah, am with you there. I will steal ideas though and can fashion my own creations from looking at their applications.

I want a dedicated media room. I have a 50" plasma for regular viewing and an LCD projector for movies, both in the living room. It's a little busy.

looks killer. i wanted to start on my living room, but i keep forgetting i'm only gonna be there a few years, so i don't wanna dump the extra $ i have on something that will be mediocre and i can't take with me :(

Well, the wires are tricky, and you would probably have to see it in person to understand(I'm terrible at explaining thing :( ). But they are out of sight for the most part.

Center channel is on the fireplace more towards the bottom. I'm going to buy a new center channel so it will fit on the mantle. The one I have right now is just too tall.

Big baller? haha yeah right!

I've been saving and building this system for about 4 years, one piece at a time. Projector a screen are the last pieces of the puzzle. Maybe I'll be able to get those next year.

I took your advice and bought a pair of those in walls for my rears. They sound great !I dont think you can beat them for the price.

I mounted my plasma above my fireplace and it really doesn't bother me. I got worried seeing people post online about their neck hurting because of the viewing angle, but I think some people just like to bitch about anything. I guess if you sat with perfect posture it might bother you after watching TV for 3-4 hours, but my lazy ass is usually kicked back in the chair or laying down on the couch. :D

you could put a quiet fart fan in the ceiling of the closet and turn it on when you close the door....out of sight and quiet. Might undercut the door a little to allow air in down low.

I've got a PS3 and use it a lot for movies, a media server, etc. so I definitely want to keep it hooked up, but wasn't sure how the RF worked with it.... Also, can you give me an idea of what you spent on all of the connections and the footages as well as what all was required to make it all work? My setup will be similar to yours and obviously I'll have to check the distance from my closet to the mounting location, but component wise, it'll be similar.... thanks!

The Xbox worked flawlessly set up like this. I had to buy a Harmony 890 rf/ir remote, and it controlled everything. Even with the door closed, the Xbox controller worked perfectly. Since then, I've changed the Xbox for a PS3. Although the Harmony will not control the PS3 since it is neither IR or RF(it's Bluetooth). Looking for a way around this right now

There were lots of pieces to make this all work. I guess in the end, I probably spent around $5-600 to do this project. And that included the new remote.

If you'd like to come by sometime and go over everything, you are more than welcome to. But trying to type it all out here could take days :D

That's interesting about the PS3. What's the range on the bluetooth? I hadn't tried to see what kind of range they have... might try that when I get home... :)

I think it's around 30ft or so. My closet is right behind the seating(about 8 ft), so I don't need much.
