I laid 15lb tar paper over the concrete to absorb some of the "hollow" sounds that these fake wood floors give. Then laid the proper padding.

I'd like to see how it turned out as well. If I can ever sell my big screen, I plan on putting a flat screen above our fireplace.

Home Depot. I think it was right around $1.70 sq ft.
With the padding and the tar paper, it was right at $2.50sq ft

Trust me, I wanted to go with the real stuff. But, I have enough on my plate right now, and there just isn't enough time to be maintaining floors. I'm satisfied with what I got. It's not exactly what I wanted, but I'm happy with it..........for now ;)

Looks great, really darkened the room. Now you need to paint the room with coordinating colors LOL.
That's a laminate floor, not engineered right? No glue needed? I was wondering why you used the tape? the laminate floors I put down lock together hard and wouldnt separate if you wanted them to.
I did about 300sq ft in my renthouse earlier this year. Had never done it before it and it was easier than I thought. I was working with a buddy that had done his house and under his advice used the shoe molding. I wont do that again for two reasons. First, its ~$20 stick (10ft length?)and it adds up REAL quick. Second, it makes the floor look added on. I will remove the existing base board next time. probably more trouble with paint touch up and all but it has a more original and finished look.

This floor locked together. But I was more afraid of something coming loose as I got down the line. So th be a little cautious, I used the tape on the joints. Probably overkill, but I'd hate to miss a gap after the floor was completely laid :(

Cool - so where did you find the fixxer-upper? I am looking to PU some more investment properties. The market is so prime right now, I was considering finding a larger home for my primary residence. I'd love to have more sqft on a large lot with space for a shop, pool, etc.

Big difference in the installed price vs doing it yourself. I asked around, and seemed the going rate to be about $5 sqft just for the installation.

looks good, I prefer a lighter wood, but that looks really nice!
a lot of people dislike that laminate for whatever reason, but real hardwood can be a liability. I've dealt with both, and all things considered, I prefer the faux stuff for my own crib

Thats what I wanted to do until I found out what all you have to go through to tile a pier and beam house. I will settle for the fake hardwoods instead.

here's a couple of shots of my renthouse and the floors we put down. I think the lighter colors tend to blend better and look more retro. I think this was about .99 sq ft.
I installed a couple of sticks of the 3/4" matching laminate shoe molding and didn't like it. It was big and made the floor look "added on". As an alternative, I went and bought the cheap 1/4 round in 1/2" dia. Painted it the same color as the base boards and put it down instead. To me it looked much better than the big-ass expensive laminate molding.

Looks good. Laminate is just as good as hard wood and durable.
I hope you left atleast a 1/4" space between laminate and the wall though.

What is the space for? I just ripped up the carpet in my hallway and I am getting ready to lay down some laminate. I HATE carpet. But, I think I'll leave the carpet in the bedrooms... and do some tile in the utility, bathrooms, and kitchen.

you need to leave a space for expansion and contraction of the floors... the baseboards should cover up that 1/4" gap

It made a little difference, but not all that I had hoped for. It definately improved the "hollow" sound that comes with these floors. But you can still hear it a little. I should of gone with the real stuff, but we all learn from our mistakes....right? Next time I will do it the right way, and install the real wood floors.

The hell is it...laminate cannot be refinished or stained etc....real hardwood floors can be sanded down, hand scraped, refinished several times, etc

The tar and plasic and more for humidity protection...since more than likely people lay the laminate floors on top of the concrete slab the hollow sounds will always be there....the best thing to do is lay the foam recycled stuff like what is under carpets

Looks good, I like the dark wood in your room. Here's a couple picts of our old formal dining turned into a home theater. We took up the tile and went to cork floors. It was the click flooring, once you got the hang of it the work went pretty quickly.
We still have a little work to do running the projector cables.

If you dont give some space, when the floor starts to expand and shrink it will buckle. When i installed laminate i always took off the baseboard off then placed it on top. This gives it a much better look.
