Going to be taking the CHL class in January and looking to buy something before I do. While I was at the range today I tried out a Glock 23 and liked it pretty well. Would like to stick with a .40 for when I do get my license let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Thats what I have the G23. Love it. You can argue to the death between the .40 and th .45 being the better self defense round. Its a matter of placement, is what it all boils down to.
.45 is a slower heavier, but bigger round.
.40 is lighter, faster, and carries more velocity.
Both great for knockdown.
Its a Ford vs Chevy debate.
Personally, I think the .40 is the better of the two, but whatever you feel more comfortable shooting, pick that one.

I have it and like it just fine. Best thing to do is try out different guns and see what fits the best.

10mm. Accept no substitutions, unless you're a girly man.
Actually, I like the 10mm and can manage its recoil (more than a .40 S&W, depending on the load(s)) and the larger grip. If I couldn't, it'd be .40 S&W for slightly more magazine capacity, smaller platform, and similar performance to the .45 ACP.
Like others said, try out different guns and find one that feels good.

I got a Taurus .40 and I really like the way it shoots and feels.
PM me if you are interested, I am thinking about selling it.
