I've wanted one since I saw one at a sniper school. Lately the urge has gotten much worse. I may need to scratch that itch soon. Where can you shoot one around DFW? We've got land in E Tx, but I don't want to have to drive for four hours to shoot a few rounds. Somebody had one posted in the classified ads a while back.
LAR grizzlies seem to be the entry level models. There may be a kit that's cheaper, though, look around. Look for something single shot, and the dollars required are significantly less.

I'm wondering if that may end up being the case with me. I don't know if I'll shoot enough to justify hand loading. Than again, at $5 per round, it may not take much to justify the expense.

I know of a couple if you have $8k just burning a hole in your pocket.
As for a place to shoot, I think AGP in Greenville area allows 50s, but dont know distances.

Not so much! I'm probably a serbu BFG-50 or LAR Grizzley guy.
Wish I still had access to the range at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells. 600-1000 yards is not a problem there. I mean, what's the point of a .50 if you're gonna shoot on the 100 yard range at Alpine?
Aarons Pawn on Camp Bowie West had a Serbu .50 cal a couple of weeks ago when I was there. I don't think they had any idea what it was but I couldn't spring for it at the time. I think they were asking $1895 for it, meaning $1500 would have taken it home.
