Depending on the turnout of the race, getting past the weekend warriors at the beginning is a time killer. Try to start near the front and get through them quickly. Then concentrate on running your own race. Your time should get you in the upper quarter of the pack at the finish line.

<- Winner of the Southlake Stampede last year in my age bracket. We'll see how I do at White Rock this year.

Good luck! Pace yourself and know the course before you start so that you know where any killer hills or weird spots are.

What is the 10K race? I like to have oat meal before I do something like this, but really its just personal preference. Just stay well hydrated the night before and drink some water in the morning and you should be fine for such a short race.
