i am looking to be able to identify all those pesky lil .exe's running in the processes window. for example svchost.exe. or ixplore.exe. well i know what those are but what about all the other resource hogs that are not needed? i recently read a thread on here about that blackviper.c om site and that helped me eliminate a bunch of them. but 6-8 new ones have sprang up recently and these unfortunatly are not on his list. i realize that some of my own desired programs will generate these, i would just like to be able to identify them so that i know wether or not to try and get rid of it. i need to conserve so that i have more to dedicate to the things i really want my machine to do. (gaming) so is there a good list somewhere that might help me identify some of the ones that i cant? maybe even how to get rid of the offending process?

Just type in the process into google. Once you figure out how to use google, things will get so much easier for you.

Try this site:
http://www.lafn.org/webconnect/mentor/startup/PENINDEX.HTM
Type in the name, it will tell you what it is, and if it can be disabled or not.

 i know your prefered answer to anything and everything is google.com ftw, but did you ever think that maybe someone wants a more SPECIFIC answer? i bet your like "hmm. wonder what the meaning of life is?" and you type it into google. got news for ya. this might hurt you to read this.. but google ain't the know all, be all of any info. while they may not be many, it has limits that talking to an actual human does not. or 20 humans, for that matter. so if you dont have anything to acutally add to the thread, well then please just don't bother to post at all. im not trying to pick on you, it's just that i have noticed that you like to make noise like this in my threads and a few other people's.
i KNOW search engines exist. so do message boards.
(sorry its just hard to tell if you are trying to be genuinely helpful or just being rude. if you were trying to help, please diregard all of the above :D
