Took the car to the track tonight.

Car has the following:

K&N Drop in Filters
Sprint Booster
Continental All Season Tires (I think the Michelins would've helped a LOT)

Conditions:
90* dropping down to 87* or so
85%+ humidity - enough to allow the windows to fog up by the end of the 1/4 mile, and it was getting foggy outside, car getting almost wet, etc..

Times:

Best time was a 13.2 @108 - only got it once, did it launching in 1st with traction control turned OFF - it was my third to last run, and tried it two more times to get a 13.6 and a 13.5. Other than this one run, I never got over 104mph trap speed for whatever reason. I really feel like I left a LOT on the line with the 60fts

I must've ran a 13.7 @ 103 (13.7@103) 7 or 8 times - would definitely dial it in at that if I was bracket racing. Put it in 'D', hold the rpms at 1K, release the brake and mash the gas - 13.7x @103.7 every time!

Notable Competitors: (good to gauge track conditions)
350Z - exhaust, intake, chip - 14.8 best time
5.0 Mustang Coupe - exhaust, cold air, gears - 14.7
01 Mustang GT - 5spd - exhaust at least, not sure what else - 14.8
06 Mustang GT - 5spd - exhaust at least, not sure what else - 15.0
Ram Air Trans Am - ran him once heads up, and it was my 2nd best run at 13.5, got him by a .1. He had full headers back exhaust, drag radials, and lids. Killed him off the tree and would walk away each time he shifted...he ran a few 12.9s earlier in the night and said his car dropped more than 2 tenths when the fog rolled in with the same good launches as the 12.9's came on.
240Z - turbocharged (T28?) - 14.7
240Z - 100mm turbo 8.4 @ 165mph :o
C5 ZO6 - seemed mostly stock - ran a few 13.0's and 12.99, ran a 13.4 against me when I ran a 13.5, close!

It was fun...first time to the track in this car, and only second time ever.

Neither did the LS1 T/A, the stangs, and the turbo'd 240 :p

Funny thing is that I could still hear my low volume radio over the wind/ehxuast/blower as I rolled through the traps. ;)

The T/A driver and the turbo'd 240 driver said they both usually kill crossfires and thought for sure I was spraying. Told them the Crossfire SRT is basically an SLK32 with the AMG package (blower, 330hp)...and they understood. They said the same thing most people say, "I've never seen one of those before!"

Nobody knows about them...and even fewer people know that they are CRAZY cheap right now. You can pick one up for under $20K with under 20K miles and full warranty. Not many mercedes built cars with 330hp in that price range...not to mention the handling and the fact that there were only a few of them produced.

If you see that front splitter, big whale tale 911-esque wing, 15 spoke wheels, or SRT badges...you know what to expect.

Thats not bad times.

What times were you getting at the 1/8 mile marker?

I have only taken my car to the track once.
I ran 14.001 they told me if I broke into the 13's I had to put
a helmet on. F that my car is slow so I turned the boost down
and stayed in the 14's.

I run 8.6x in the 1/8th mile though : )

06 Mustang GT 15.0????
Must have been a driving fool!! My wife's completely stock 06 Gt went 13.71, and it was slammed to the ground.
Even still, low 13's is impressive!

Do they make Drag Radials for 19's? I haven't seen them. I know some guys are putting 18's on the rear and running a drag radial, but I've yet to see them for 19's.

Is yours a stick or auto? Nice times!

They are all Auto with the auto-stick function (the SRT models). Same tranny you will find in the AMG55 if I remember correctly. The Non-SRT models are running high 14's at best, stock.

The car is pure mercedes as far as drivetrain goes, as well as the brakes. It is a 3.2L AMG.

Thats not bad times.

My best times in the 1/8 were in the low 8.7's, but I was spinning like mad.

The '06 Mustang definitely had a BADDD driver mod. He would launch good, but just couldn't shift. He ran a 15.0 when I ran him. I'm pretty sure he did better once or twice, but nothing near a 13.

There was a S/C 05+GT that was laying down mid 12's and looked bone stock.

Damn, I've been looking at those for a possible Daily . . . Very nice.

If you want an SRT model, I know there is one over in Indiana for $19,9 with 20k miles and full certified warranty from the most reputable dealer for these cars that I have run across. I bought mine from Bonham up NE of Dallas and wouldn't refer them to Bin Laden - they sucked.

If non-SRT is what you are after, I've seen them going for 13-15k with very low miles, so don't over spend. The non-srt gets over 25mpg with the auto (I got right at 30mpg with mine when I drove it to Bonham from San Antonio to trade it on the SRT). The SRT hasn't done much better than 20mpg for me, but it only has 1500 miles, and I'm not driving it 'nice'.

It is actually my Wife's car, but lately it has been a lot more fun than my stangs :D

I had one of those play around with me on the highway a while back. I was surprised it hung as well as it did.

ShawnQ

It's much more of a highway car than a 1/4mile car, without a doubt.

Several guys are laying down 12.8's and 12.9's bone stock in cooler air.

That is plenty fast to hang with stock C5's, and bad-driver C5's with a few mods. Like mentioned above, I barely lost to the Z06 (not sure what they run stock).

Either way, they are a hell of a lot of car for the money - I'm still amazed more people don't purchase them. I assume the Chrysler badging and the fact that it is a 2-seater steers a lot of people away. It's a wolf in sheeps clothes though.

Stock c5 z06 with good driver and conditions should run a low to mid 12.

I think the best I saw from him was a 12.9 or so. He was running low 13's or 13.0 most of the night.

ls1haha']Time for a pulley

Damn Right!

Bad thing is, the pulleys and tune for these cars run like $2500-3000!!

Renntech makes a pulley kit with ECU reflash, EVOSport makes a kit with tune, ASP makes a pulley only, LET is making a pulley, and VIRUS is making them.

I think ASP is the cheapest, but they dont offer a tune.

And on this car - you don't change the blower pulley, you change the crank pulley and/or the accessory pullies. The blower pulley is clutched on this one to shut it off if the IAT gets too hot...would be too expensive to re-design and manufacture it.

The pulley/tune adds like 50hp and drops them into the 12.3 area from what I've seen.

Oh, and I have seen 3 '07 Crossfires so far this month at work, the ones they didnt make.:p (Not sure what the deal is on them, but I guess they let a few slip by before they cut production)

They made the base and limiteds in '07, just no SRT's.

Apparently they are going to continue to make the base and limited in '08 as well (which is stupid because they can't sell them as it is..)

If you run across a cheap SRT, let me know.

I always figured those SRT-6s to be real barnstormers, but i never see them on the road. I love em!

IMO, its the type of powerplant that should have gone into the thunderbirds....

ShawnQ,

Look into the SRT Track Experience.
For an 05 - 2nd owner I think you'll have to pay, but it is worth it.

The SRT TE was included in the price of my 06 SRT8.

The SRT Track Experience is put on by Richard Petty driving school.

Yeah I know, it was just funny that about two months prior to us getting one, they kept saying they didnt make any '07s(Chrysler people said that:p)

Cool, will do, we have a few right now, but "they" are wanting to hold the money at the moment...(even though theyll be dropping their price soon enough to sell them anyway)
