View Full Version : The 2 classes for the cruise !

The one that is obvious is the KODFWStangs. Everyone has grown accustomed to that one, it will stay. Anything goes, door cars only, pro tree, 8 cars qualified. 1 round of qualifying.
The 2nd one is somewhat of a mystery - I am having a tough time deciding on what to run for the 2nd class.
The first choice, for the second class, was KODFWStreets - drive it to the track and hope you have enough. 3 runs back to back. The participation was lacking before and I just don't see any interest. So, I think it's out.
The 2nd choice is kind of like a mini-KODFWStangs, only "slower" cars. By "slower" I mean 5.70 or slower. These are normally the cars that can't "compete" in KODFWS. No rules other than "door cars" only, on a random tree (it can be ANY type of tree). This should keep the regular racers from running away with it .
NO SANDBAGGING. If I feel you are sand bagging, I'll get on the P.A. and ask the crowd - they can VOTE with some NOISE. IF the crowd says you were sandbagging, you are outta here and your opponent advances to the next round. There will be at least an 8 car qualified field. Your opponent will be randomly drawn from a hat EVERY ROUND. We have a whole SLEW of cars that can compete in this. If you are faster than what is posted, you need to be in KODFWS. I will not make the final decision, the crowd will.
What do you guys think of this one? Ideas?

Why? in the heat of the day a 6.30 car can beat a 5.70 car
lol -- A 5.70 cut would mean there are going to be 8 cars running awfull fast

last cruise there weren't too many people in KODFWstangs either... i can think of atleast 3 cars that were in the 6's all out...

If no one wants to participate, that's fine by me - It will just be turned into brackets. There's always people that want to participate in them and EVERYONE can do that.
There's a pretty big gift certificate to Jamesb's for the winner, That's all I'd need to know...

the random tree would get frustrating as all hell. I think the cutoff should be 6.0's and slower though. Even with the random tree your still making another KODFWS with a 5.70 cutoff. How many guys on this board can really run a 5.70?

I plan on being there participating in the "slower" class again.
Making a few changes to the car and should be ready.
I would also like to see the class set for 6.0 cars and slower? My .02

There's quite a few for sure, a lot of which don't post thier times.
There's a LOT of cars on this site that are between 6.30's and 5.70's. I know A LOT of them. Those same people won't participate in KODFWS because of the "slew" of low 5 second cars we have.
I know brackets suck to watch, so I'd personally rather not see them. But, we have even more people who can't compete in either of the "fast" classes. This would be for them....
I think the random tree would be the biggest handicap and bring some potentially fast cars in reach of the slower cars.

Who says the turbo cars can't make the turn arounds? :confused: You planning on running less than every 45 mins?

They could, but it would mean working all day long and possibly making several runs in a relatively short time frame.
Not every run will be in that short of a time, but a couple will be.

We turned my car around at redline in 15 minutes on two different occasions.
That being said, unless I can get my car aligned before sunday, I won't make it. Unfortunately, I can't take off work to do it so it would have to be an afterhours thing.

Not every run will be in that short of a time, but a couple will be.
Do you think that many people will even run King? Hell some people never get to watch racing anyways when they go to the track. :o I say leave the king as any car, why limit it to a time and not really be the fastest?
As for the other class seems to be a lot more 6.0 cars to 5.70 cars...and boosted and Reid and Gravygraber all have their grudges too...

King is King that is the fastest car at the track that day. If you have a bracket race put a 5.50 brake out on it. But dont call it King.. :cool: Call it bracket racing.. Hell we could just run the motor only and hot lap it :p

I only run 5.70's, but the random tree thing will have to be explained a little. Will you know before you go to the line or is it just going to pop up?
The spring race we only had two cars running quicker than 5.70 for the King race.

It might take extra time... I put on racecraft a-arms that are adjustable and narrower than stock. I also staggered the wheelbase an inch. Not sure how long it will take or how difficult it will be.

Sure! We can line up. It'll be fun! I'm also waiting on tube nut adapters for new upper bars for my wheeliebars, but those should be here in time. JamesB and I have some ideas to make the uppers a bit stiffer.

You have to ask yourself, If I had a car that ran 5.7's, would I want to run in a class where there was .7 difference between the cars? Probably not.
Just as every cruise goes, I am trying to make something for everyone with a small amount of sponsorship, time, and planning. Naturally, there are people who dont' like it and elect to bitch about it, rather than race.
Remember, this is not a million dollar race, we are not here for the money. The money is just something I've been able to get from our gracious sponsors.
