After my shock install, I am having issues with the sag readings. I'm not sure if this is a pre-existing problem b/c I never set the sag with the stock shock assembly. when off the bike, the measurement is 9 1/2 inches at the passenger foot pegs. When i get on the bike and have my buddy take the measurements, it comes back 8 1/2 on the right side and 9 on the left this is with the bike perfectly straight up! I can't explain this and I know its not right.

What could be the cause of this?

I loosened everything from the shock install this weekend and tightened it back up to make sure there was no binding. Everything seems to be fine. The bike rides straight, but the numbers don't lie!!!

loosen the shock bolts and lift up on the rear wheel while you tighten them down. Not doing this can cause funky sag readings. When you get the sag measured without you on the bike, press down on the rear a few times to let it settle. Also, when measuring with you on the bike, make sure you put your weight on the bike feet barely touching, in your normal riding position.

I just re read your post, your footpegs could be in diff positions. Take your measurement from a spot on the subframe or rear fender, to the axle or back of swingarm. Your rear wheel travels at sort of an arc from those two points, so make a straight line and just be sure you're in the exact same place when taking readings on and off the bike.

thanks man!! when i did the swap, the rear of the bike was in the air so the shock should be ok. i will try taking my measurements off the sub frame to see if it makes a difference.

I know, the rear should be in the air, but there is a few mms of movement when the shock bolts are loose. lift up on the wheel as You tighten them or it could throw off the measurements.
