Every workout partner Iv had in the last 5 years have flaked out after 4-5 weeks. Is it worth even trying to find another work out partner or should I suck it up and work out by myself?
Whats yalls experiences?

due to one of my partners moving to Chicago and my schedule being crazy since I'm working this semester I've started working out by myself. My gym is busy so if I ever need a spot it's no problem. I also find that I get done with my workouts a lot quicker. A workout that used to be 75-90 minutes is more like 30-45. Unless you need a partner to stay motivated or are actively training for something and need coaching/support then I think working out alone is great.

When i lost my work out partner last year, the same thing happend. Work outs are much faster, less chatting and no one to wait on or spot.

i have had 3 training partners who "lasted" and had real legitimate reasons not to lift after over a year of lifting together.. the rest either lose focus or are just scared of hurting.. pussies.

Agreed.
A friend and I work out together maybe once or twice a week whenever our schedules work out, but otherwise I'm in there by myself.

I enjoy it. I can zone out with my music and get everything done in 30-45 minutes. No distractions and not as much standing around between sets.

there is a difference between working out with some one and having some one you can lift with... the 2-3 serious lifting partners i have made a HUGE impact on my lifting.. their energy feeds you. if they go 150%.. you do to.. untill you train with an animal.. you dont know what you are missing..

You're probably right :o
Most of the people I work out with don't take it too seriously and seem to use a partner as just an excuse for a break.
A few years ago when I was in school I worked out with two other guys and I think that was the strongest I've ever been... and these were guys, like you said, who put just as much into it a I did.

That's probably why I dont mind lifting by myself right now. There's no difference in my lifting when I'm by myself or with one of these guys.

I agree with that 100%. I've been lifting alone for the majority of my lifting "career", and can get it done, but there is a distinct increase in motivation and intensity when I have a trusted training partner to spot. You can go heavier without fear of getting caught under it, and like Dave said, your energy feeds of oine another. "You only got 8 reps bitch?! Here's 10 for ya!"

Alone. I work out at home, I like my schedule, and I can bang it out in about an hour. I wouldn't mind a lifting partner, but they'd have to be willing to come to the house and follow my schedule.

I work out alone (when i work out). I do MUCH better with a partner if nothing else because it takes away part of my decision to go or not or to lift more or not.

Alone but I don't lift very often. Mostly cardio, and even if I did, it would still be alone because I don't go to gyms and I don't have a specific schedule.

My main reason for wanting a workout partner is becasue it motivates me to continue to work out and I work out harder. If someone is counting on me and me on them Im more motivated to go to the gym and run(by myself) than without. My schedule sucks so it hard to find someone to workout with. I either get a 24hr fitness membership and work out after work(I work Mon-Fri 2pm-10:30pm) or before work. Everyone I know is asleep by the time I get home or at work. :(
Iv always worked out a lot harder and seen better results with a partner.
i.e.-when I go run by myself I usaully run 2-2 1/2 milesin about 20 mintues. Iv got a friens that really competitive with me and when were able to go run we'll run 5-6 miles and stay motivated the whole time. Id work out with him but we have different schedules. At least I can go run with my doberman. He never says he's to tired to go run :p

Yeah, but that's only a workout. I need someone that goes to my gym all the time.

I have done both, I can say when I was the strongest I have ever been, I was working out with someone who was much stronger than me. It helped to motivate me too move more weight than I though I could. What I hate about going by myself is the fact I have to use dumbbells to lift or resort to dumping weights off. (Which is not the best thing in a busy gym.)

training with someone stronger then you is good motivation. but keep in mind.. that means one of you is still lifing with some one weaker.. As long as their intensity is up there. thats all that matters.

It's more about intensity than weight. I may not lift a house like Dave, but I sure can make him feel like a my mom can lift more on those days that he's not feelin' it. ;)

Partners are for people who wanna socialize.
Hence why I always wear headphones and don't make eye contact.

I think that depends on your personality type, and the rapport that you have with the person you are training with. Like I said earlier, I've built my body essentially by myself, and have no problem bangin' the weights around with headphones to tune the world out. I've also gone through a few "partners" that were competent enough to spot for me, but the fire just wasn't in them, so it seemed like they were leaching my energy. I've also trained with a couple guys that were there with a goal in mind, and we fed off each others energy to make for a better overall workout. Some days I'm the on draggin' and it's good to have a partner there to figuratively slap me in the face, other times I'm doing some slapping, and when both of us are in sync we focus that energy into the steel for one helluva training session.

i think this depends on your workout. i currently dont have a workout partner but i am not trying to get huge just tone and slightly bigger.

when i had a partner we would alternate what part we were working so we would not be waiting on each other. Then when it came time to max we would push each other as much as we could but if we were not maxing out we were not even talking

im fine lifting alone.. but no one is 100% motivated all the time. and then when i Do go heavy on some things like bench. its nice to have a spotter i can trust.

Typically by myself. Some guy has been partnering up with me on Mondays and Wednesdays. Kinda slows me down but I don't mind.
