I bought an I book just to have a laptop around the house. I bought it from craigslist and it did not come with any software etc... I am wanting to wipe the hard drive and reinstall an operating system. How can I do this with none of the cd's or anything like that. I just need it for the internet etc.... It has OSX on it as of now.

You'll have to purchase OSX if you dont have the orignal cd's. If you have the software code somewhere on the laptop, you can probably download OSX off the internet and burn it to a cd your self and just reinstall using the code on your laptop.

OS X does not use codes like windows. Two options. Go a and Apple Store/Compusa/Best Buy and purchase mac os x for 129 bucks. Call apple tech support 1800aplcare and purchase the original system disc for 50 bucks. The original system disc will not have the latest version of mac os x they will have whatever version was on your machine when they sold it. I would just buy a copy of OS X from somewhere.
If it has OS X on it. I would say just make a new user, then delete the old user and it will pretty much be like a new to you machine.

If you end up buying a new version of OSX, wait one or two weeks. The newest version "OSX Leopard" is supposed to be released before the end of the month. Speculation is that it will be out on Oct. 26. However Apple has only said that it will be out this month.

Got a customer who got an email from Apple confirming the date as the 26'th.
