How can i get my DVD burner to read a 4.7GB disk (DVD RW) vs the normal 712mb cdr's????

You put in a 4.7GB dvd? If you're trying to burn a 4.7GB media disk, you may have to select that as output in whatever program you're using.

Odd question.

If you have a DVD burner then it has the capability of reading and writing to a DVD Writeable disk.

all i am doing is inserting the disk and it pops up what do you want to do...

I click explore disk...
then i drag the stuff i want on the disk to it...

but it wont let me make a disk past 712mb

is there a way to fix it without some other program...

hmm, not sure what you have to change for XP to switch to DVD mode.

just use nero instead. you can choose cd data, cd audio, dvd video, dvd data... lots of options and its easy to use.

alcohol 120 is a good program too.

Sounds to me like you need to install some DVD Authoring software. i.e. Nero

I am using nero 6 ultra edition...

It still says 703mb avail....

how do i get it to say 4.7gb???

i am trying to put most of my MP3s on 1 disk....

Go to the manufacturer's website of the DVD Burner. Look up your model number and see if there are any firmware updates available. What you are describing sounds like a firmware problem with the burner not recognizing the larger capacity media.
