i have read some bad reviews about the leading guys (norton, mcafee) so i was like "well fuck it then lets just try this one. it auto updates itself and everything". it found like 6 things. but i was wondering if any of you guys had any experience with it. im guessing it sucks for the most part due to the price. it's free. but the big guys charge well for theirs, and I've really only heard complaints about them.

I've used it for 6 years and it's stopped several viruses. My pc has been infected zero times. If you feel bad about it being free, they do have a version you can pay for.

I read about it in Maximum PC a few years back now it is on every PC at work and both of my home PCs. I use the free at home and we bought the ones for work. Not much missing from the free one.

the new 2008 home version is mcafee is supposed to be much improved. I haven't tried it yet first hand but I can give it a whirl and let you know.

I run the corporate editions on my stuff but I also work for McAfee so I can get the stuff for free :)

i use it exclusively now. both it and CA ez antivirus are good. they run with a small footprint so they dont bog your computer on startup and make you feel like a pile of shit like full featured norton and mcafee do.

I have the CA security center for all the computers at work. It's pretty nice.

I never really cared much for AVG. I use BitDefender Free Edition. No need for an active scan shield...

I use Avast, it's free and works with Vista 64. No problems and it updates every day it seems.

I have installed this on over 100+ computers and have never had one issue with it. It works really well and doesn't slow the system down.

AVG is one of the best AV products out there. Unlike Norton, they don't tend to write screwed up filter drivers.

Our company uses the hell out of AVG, and I use it on my own home systems (free version) and on my laptop (paid version). I also recommend it to my friends. No issues to date with any nasty viruses of any kind on any box.
