And I cant for the life of me find what kind of weight to use. I'm pretty much ignorant to this subject and could use a little advice. Also are their any recommended brands?
TIA

most are 10w40 that i know of. although you will get raped by the dealer, go there for your oil. its better to be safe than sorry IMO.

10-40 should work fine, stick to the stock stuff if you are weary about something going wrong. I tried a couple different ones and I decided to go with a semi synthetic 10-40. No problems so far, it's been about 1600 miles since the switch. I did notice some subtle changes going to the SS, less noisy, and believe it or not, it runs 5-10* cooler, I was seeing 230-235* in the summer and after the change, it has been running 220-228*(during equal temps of course).

damn. my bike usually runs at about 190 degrees. during the summer I'd occasionally see 214 or so, but my fans kick in at about that point.

my R6 runs about 185 most the time and the highest has been 212-214 when the fan kicks in and cools it down. BTW I have plenty of fairings on mine.

Those of you running below 200, are you using water water or anything other than stock coolant?

same here, on really hot days I was seeing 195-205 moving and up to 230 at a stand still.

When I was a broke young punk I would put whatever oil I could afford in my ol' F3, sometimes std, sometimes mobil1, sometimes HP4.
The bike made less noise at idle and shifted smoother with HP4 I never paid attention to the temperature, beating the fuck out of that bike (as I ALWAYS did in those days) it over heated now and then during summer days.
