Like the title says, and it's a great car mechanically but somebody abused the hell out of it physically. I've slowly but surely been fixing and replacing clips, etc. But on the exterior Im encountering something I never have before. I've lived in a dozen states and seen a few different types of sap/residue from different kinds of trees, but this is a first for me to see. I have what looks like VERY tiny drops of gel on the car. The drops look black. but when I was cleaning the Windows on the exterior of the car the only way I cold remove the tons of tiny spots on the windows was with a razor. AND when I hit the spots with the razor it's like the spots exploded into this bright yellow and brown residue that stains everything! I dont even know what Im supposed to do to get this crap off the paint of the car. The clear coat is thin already and Im afraid when I attempt to remove this stuff, it's gonna eat the paint away quick! Do I even attempt to clay bar this thing or what do ya'll think?

I'd start with a mild clay. The stuff you get from AutoZone and Oreily's is very light cutting. Go to an auto detailing supply store and get some mild stuff.
You can also try a tar and bug remover. That may work depending on how bad it is.

Will the bug & tar remover hurt the clearcoat much?

Hey Nick whats the difference between claying the car and wet sanding it? I mean besides the obvious difference ( :D ) of the different tools & stuff? Like what's the difference in purpose and outcome?

Claying will take off above surface contaminants, such as tree sap and things like that.

Wet sanding removes the clear coat. Used to remove scratches, orange peel and things of that nature.

I tried to clay bar the trunk lid yesterday since it was a nice flat reasonable place I thought to start especially since I have never used a clay bar before. It smoothed out 95% of the spots on the trunk lid but you can still feel the larger drops of sap (or whatever this devil substance is) on the lid. You can still see all the spots still on the trunk too. I tried a little rubbing compound to but to no avail. What's my next option you think? Is there anything I can use to lessen the appearance of the stuff?

And on a side note, I used that Back to Black stuff yesterday for the first time and all I have to say is WOW! GOOD SHIT!
