I have been looking for a martial arts school and decided on Hapkido. I start tomorrow night and am looking forward to it. I took Karate before, but it was a school that concentrated on kata more than anything else. It was ok for a work out but no practical experience.
Anyone else taking Hapkido?
What is everyone else taking?

Well, first night and I got a good workout, legs are sore from kicks (repitition) and elbow is sore from falling incorrectly. Having a hard time overcoming the urge to catch myself when thrown.

Watch Marquardt vs. Misaki I. You will never try to catch youself when thrown again.

I took traditional Judo for many years, but once I got familiar with Mexican Judo, that's everything I'll ever need.
Judo know if I gotta knife.
Judo know if I gotta gun.
Judo know if my cousin is coming up behind you.

Not sure I want to see it....
One of the red belts told me last night that his elbow is fractured from doing the same stupid thing as me.

Any art that you take will further discipline you more so than you are now. As far as being practical, most arts are not. But yet its still more than you knew before. Just learning how to throw a proper side kick is one more weapon added. I say that unless you want to participate in sport fighting, find one that you enjoy and look forward to train in each day.

Thats how I am approaching it. I hope to never have to use it but if I accidently get to rolling on the ground with someone I would rather cause some serious pain and be on my way than have them inflict pain on me.
I am looking forward to it every day. My son and I are both going to class and probably going to join the kickboking class as well once we pick up some sparring gear.
Of course my primary martial art is still "Glock can do"!

2nd week of class, I cant tell you how many kicks I have thrown or how many times I have thrown or been thrown to the the ground. Whole body is sore in places that I did not remember having muscles. Feels like 2 a days in football; I am 37 so that was a long time ago.
When class is dismissed all I want is gatorade and a shower. If I drank I would add a beer in there for relaxation.
Picked up our sparring equipment and will start adding a sparring and grappling class next week. Damn I am loving it so far.
