LSU trounced VT. Still think they are overrated?
I am glad that Auburn, GA and Mich lost.

I was damned impressed with LSU tonight. Not too many of the top ranked teams have shown much, imo, up to this point. OU has looked damned good, but who knows how much of a fight they were in against UNT (lmao, my mighty Mean Green was in slugfest with SMU tonight, and Miami...well, don't forget how shitty they were last year).

I don't think I ever said they were "over-rated."
I said I wasn't impressed with their 1st half against an extremely sub-par opponent. That team had won a whopping 9 games in the past 3 years.
VT was over-rated because of what happened. They weren't that great last year either. They seem to get love just about every year for some reason even though they always seem to disappoint.
LSU is a good team, but I don't know if they have enough to run the table in the SEC. Les Miles always finds a way to fuck up and I think this season will be no different.

I think we will run the table in the SEC this year since Auburn isnt looking to impressive. We always seem to have trouble with them. I cannot wait until the Fla game. I will be there for that one...

the only way I see lsu losing is if they take a game off, by thinking they can walk over anybody. not really looking forward this year to the LSU UA game, if UA can't get a passing game mcfadden is going to be one sore rb from all the hits. but I still have faith in my hogs :D

VT is a good team year in and year out. Their defense and special teams are always solid.
From what we've seen so far i'd have to say LSU and OU look to be the two best teams in the country, with USC at a close third. Very good chance that LSU and OU run the table and play for the NC. USC will not run the table.
Gig 'em.

I think the Florida game gets LSU for their only loss on the season. Florida still looks like they have insane team speed on both sides of the ball and Tebow seems to be able to throw just fine. I agree that is going to be one badass game.

I don't bet on games. But I'm sure that spread is going to be really, really close.

LOL the same reason UT gets love after having a less than great season last year loosing to A&M ( we weren't great I know) and K-State, UT won a National Title in 05. VT lost the National Title in 98 to Florida State, so they respect Beamer Ball, period. I agree VT is over rated but their coach is dam good.

Texas has won 10+ games for 6 straight seasons. VT can't boast that or even come close.
As far as "Beamer Ball" goes, VT doesn't have shit on Texas when it comes to special teams play. I belive Texas has had the most blocked kicks for the past few years now, but hasn't gotten the respect they deserve due to Texas' offense/defense being as good as it has been.

Texas aside, VT has 10+ wins the past 3 seasons. I'd say that's pretty respectable.

Fucker Please, Beamer was taking VT to Bowl games when you were 3 and shooting snot out of your face for fun.
On top of what 2cammer said you need to understand that 48-7 is the worse loss Beamer has ever had in his 20 year tenure at VT since he arrived in 1987. Mack Brown has allowed UT get beat down by more than that twice in the past 7 years. In 2000 OU routed UT 65-13 and then again in 2003 with the 65-13 butt kicking. People respect Beamer and VT because he does more with less talent than some of the bigger programs around Div 1. The Hokies have made 14 Bowl appearances under him, they are have the fifth longest bowl streak in the country currently with 13 straight, having participated in bowl games in each of the last 13 seasons! They have won three Big East Championships, one ACC Title and got into but lost one National Title game. So VT has a consistently good team since Beamers arrival in Blacksburg, VA.

Seeing as how Virginia Tech has only played in either the Big East or ACC, two of the weakest conferences in football, it's not surprising they've done what they have done because they play a bunch of nobodies in-conference. They don't have to deal with the level of talent year-in and year-out that the Big XII, SEC, Pac-10 have to. Virginia Tech has been consistenly over-rated year-in and year-out and have fallen short of the expectations of voters. They are a good team, but they aren't anywhere near the class of teams like Texas, LSU, Florida, OU, USC, etc.

You just have so much hate for any team that isn't UT. News flash you are to weak to have had chance to play College Ball or even High School Ball. You are an arm chair football nerd who's only TD was scored on Madden, Nate shut up. The reason you show little respect for other teams is because you have so little respect for the game itself. The hard work that even Junior College players put into playing is beyond your comprehension. VT, GT, GA and several other schools have excellent programs. UT is a good team but not the team they were in 2005. They were not that team the 6 years they lost in row to OU, they were not that team last year when they last 3 games. They are still to be respected though because Mack Brown has shown he can build a program that competes at the top level just as Frank Beamer has done.

I actually have to agree there. This was the regular media wanting to go back to their high ratings number by re-dog piling on an old tragedy. Sports Media is only a Division of the regular media, so they had to go along with it.

So what tragedy do we use to excuse the rating for Michigan? The theory you and Venom are trying to apply is lacking logic. VT has been over rated in previous years, the voters expect VT to be a solid team year in and year out. In my opinion UT was a bit over rated last year seeing they barley escaped TT and Nebraska with wins, lost two home games on hoime game and an away game to unranked opponents, then had a non impressive two point Bowl win over an unranked Iowa. They were a top 25 team but not a top five or ten caliber team.

UT was a top 10/5 team until McCoy got hurt. Wins still count as wins, even if they are in e or more OT's to unranked opponents at home (DOH!!!). Great teams can overcome the loss of a few players and often a key player. Last year, UT was a very, very good team, but not a great one. That being said, I don't think there's any doubt that there was only 1 great team in the country last year. tOSU, USC, and others weren't that much better, if any, than the healthy UT team. tOSU's best player was Smith. Take him out of the equation and see how good they were. Oh yeah, Florida did that. Anyway, enough with last year, it's a new season.
As for VT, they are a legitimate program. I've been to campus there many times, and that area lives for football. They have some big time recruits each year. Beamer is a great coach, and his team always gets respect, often more than it should. Face it, the ACC and the Big East just aren't powerhouse football conferences. If you want to talk hoops, that's a different story. The bottom line is that they have slipped in recent years and probably are no better than an 18-25 ranked team at best. The simple fact is that pollsters don't get to see teams practice/play early each year, so they vote off of past year's performances or traditions. Polls should wait until at least 5 weeks of season have been played.

The AP is voted by Humans, and humans are sympathetic creatures. Therefore they over-rated VT.
As for Michigan and t.u., I think the over-rating there is a result of the needless preseason poll. There should be no rankings until after week one.

There are plenty of other teams I think are good outside of Texas. There have been multiple times were I've stated that over the years I've posted on here. I respect the special teams play that VT has had over the recent past, but Texas has gone above and beyond even what they had accomplished, but it got overshadowed by the fact that their offense/defense was so dominant.

Michigan had two Heisman trophy candidates returning along with other high quality players on offense and have lived up to the hype that has surrounded their program, for the most part, as of late. VT hasn't come close to living up to their hype and didn't have anywhere near the level of offensive talent returning. Michigan played like shit and now they are ranked accordingly.
