Thats like asking whats faster, American or German cars?

Both companies build several excellent products, it depends on what pricing you are looking at and what features you want. Pioneer is the more popular of the two brands though, especially the Elite line.

For HDMI support you'll be in the $700 retail range. Personally I'd buy whichever of the two has the features I want with the highest rated power. Stuff like ipod support and built in XM/Sirius tuners are a waste to me but they are also available.

Most audiophiles I know go with Yamaha. I've always liked Pioneer too, but never used a Denon. I've heard people speak highly of them though. Should be good with any of them, just go with the one with the most bang for the buck.

I was a high end Yamaha freak for years but the receivers only lasted 3 years at best and would start crapping out. 3 years ago I bought a high end Denon and not only does it sound better, it still powers on like a monster.

When it comes right down to absolute sound quality, your speakers are going to be the limiting factor but if you are looking for loud, powerful and clean, my money is on Denon.

I love Denon products, but have been considering going with a Sony (I KNOW I'm going to catch hell). But after you look at the specs and reviews, I doubt you'll find another receiver out there for less than $500 that can do what it does for $350.

I mean 3 HDMI inputs, that can pass 1080p
3 component inputs
and all inputs are upconverted to HDMI out

there isn't a better budget receiver out there

if money doesn't matter I'd go with the Denon 3808

My Yamaha tuner has been in for warranty work twice in the last two years. When it works it's badass but the rest of the time my Sony backup works just fine.

Look at NAD and Marantz. Those are my two favorites.

Ill tell you this, I still have my Pioneer VSX-454 with the stone age Dolby Pro-Logic from 10 years ago lol. Still running strong. Pioneer makes an excellent product.
