I have a friend that can get a good deal on THIS (http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/) brand. I have heard there stuff before, but I don't know how good it is. I was looking at the NINe.2X (http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=47) for my 400watt RMS MTX sub.

lol - There are a lot of audio people that don't like eD... Not necessarily because of the products. Personally I think they make decent amps and drivers, but they wouldn't be my first pick really for either though.
But if you can get a good price go for it... Its not like you're buying junk

I've got one of their enclosures and thin 10" subs in my scion tC and I'm underwhelmed with everything from the shipping to the products. It would have to be a really good deal before I could recommend them.

But if you can get a good price go for it... Its not like you're buying junk
eD has horrid products from my edead v1 which FALLS off in the heat, to the 13kv.2 subwoofer that has horrible coil slap :(.
Their products are "Average" and thats me being nice :)

So if you were to compare that amp I have linked, to some other amp I can get for $200. Which amp would you get?

I thought EVERY copycat sound deadener was cheaper AND better than Dynamat. :confused:

I have no experience with Elemental Designs so I do not have an opinion on them.
I don't trust an audio company that sells retail directly from their website. Without a trusted dealer network you rely on someone in a call center to diagnose and help you when you buy the wrong stuff to begin with.
I want to demo a product in a soundroom at the very least and if possible installed in a vehicle before dumping my money on something. When you buy from a trusted dealer you've got a better idea that it's a good product and if not they should be able to work with you to get what you really want/need.

They have a 5 year warranty, I havent read the fine print though.
It'll probably work just fine assuming your sub is 4 ohm. I don't see a CEA logo anywhere on their site though meaning they pull the rated power figures out of their ass. Personally I'd visit a local audio shop that is well respected and see what they recommend. For that kind of cash you can get into a lot of better known brands.

THey have all there ratings at 12.5 volts. I know about CEA and I know that isnt a good sign. oh well, guess it is a no go on ED.

EW will help you out, no doubt. Or if for some reason you want to shop elsewhere Nick or Monty at Mobile Electronics on Cooper are good guys. Can't go wrong with any of them.

nearly all power ratings are complete shit now... it all started with one d bag that lied a little and then company B had to do the same to compete and over and over. if your friend has the hook up on it, he most likely either has/knows someone with the equiptment installed or knows of a showroom or something. listen to it. if it starts to distort then you are past the amps power capabilities... lol. the best opinion is your own. i honestly really like some of the middle class amps (mtx and similar) just as much as the higher end over priced stuff.
to tell you the truth i was not impressed with the subs that i heard. i made a custom box for a guy a while back and they souned decent but slightly muffled... like they were holding back or somthing which is common for cheaper subs. but then again, they could have been blown by the dumb ass that owned em :p im pretty sure it was ED... check the stuff out with the amps

Guess you haven't heard of the new CEA standards, http://www.ce.org/Standards/browseByCommittee_2648.asp. You can thank companies like American Bass, Mark Antony and Cadence for it. 50 watts per channel rated but putting out 1700 when bridged:) Oh wait, I've got a Kicker amp that does that.

Lol @ the 1700 watts brigded... i've always thought that kicker was pretty accurate on thier RMS ratings on thier amps; at leaste on their older stuff. not totally sure how the ratings compare on the newer amps.

The "old school" cheater amps... Like mentioned above, you would have a amp that might be rated 100x2 @4ohms but is really .5ohm stable bridged for like 1500watts :p

My XS-100 is 50x2 rated at 4 ohms and 1000 watts at 1 ohm bridged. These are at 12.5 volts though:) With 15 volts of clean power it's 1600+. I've also got a ZR360 that is 90x2 rated at 4 ohm but the birth certificate was 711 watts.
