Yes. Keep in mind the CHL class includes a proficiency exam. If you don't know how to work that pistol, you need to go learn it first.

the shooting exam is not really hard... just not what I thought it was going to be.
-you need to practice shooting from low ready position. (aquiring the target)
-you need to practice single shots, 2 shots, 3 shots from low ready
-you need to practice at 3 yards, 7 yards, and 15 yards
-you need to be a pro at handling your gun (safety, always pointed downrange, you know what to do it it jams, etc.)

When I took mine the proficiency exam was them asking if everyone knew which end the bullets came out of.
The shooting test is easy, you can qualify before you ever get to 15. Aim center mass, take 5's and 4's all day.
Be safe and watch for idiots near you.
If you can't pass the proficiency exam, you have no business dealing with firearms.

Most instructors have you shoot 10 rounds x 10 mags with a Glock 17 (9mm) that they provide. At least they did in my class, that's usually the standard though. It's next to impossible to fail the proficiency test.
