D.C. School Official Convicted On Terrorism Charges

Many people in the D.C. public school system are surprised to hear that a former school official has been convicted in Miami on terrorism charges.
Kifah Jayyousi was the chief of facilities for the public schools from 1999 to 2001.
A federal jury convicted the American citizen of conspiring to murder, kidnap and maim overseas; conspiring to provide material support for terrorists; and providing that support. He was convicted with "enemy combatant" Jose Padilla, who was accused by the U.S. government of plotting a radiological dirty bomb attack.
Prosecutors say Jayyousi participated in a support cell with Padilla.
But many school and city officials say they are shocked that the person they called a sweet, mild-mannered worker who was enthusiastic about fixing the city's schools could have been involved in terrorism plots.
