In another thread the following statement was made:

I agree with term limits 100%. We have it for the commander in chief, why not for the rest of the clowns that have made a nice living on the backs of the people. How can "we the people" get this movement going? With the foxes guarding the hen house can it even be done?
How can new people compete with the money machines and the embedded Kennedy's and such?
The will of the people is not being done by either party, such as securing the borders, fixing social security (they don't have it and don't care) and the list goes on....
Please keep the party BS and finger pointing to a minimum, this is something I am truly concerned about for my kids and future generations.

No I think term limits just for the executive branch is fine, the problem that we have in this country is that everybody is worried about who the next president will be instead they should focus more on who the next congressman/woman or senator will be because these are the people who will be introducing most of our laws and bills and then voting either yay or nay. The president is really just a coach while congress/senate are the players, the coach can lead and direct the players but he can't win the game for them. Especially when the players are just focused on whoring for attention and applauses by the fans (voters).

Instead of term limits... just vote. people run for state reps and for congress. Vote for someone different. If a state has a good rep or congressman, the state should be able to keep them, if the voters choose to. I would venture to say that the same people vote every year, and the same group of people never do. They just want others to do it. That's why things don't change. One thing I do wish is that they couldn't give themselves a raise without leting the pepole vote for it!

I even vote in city and school board elections. "Our" elected officials talk a good game when trying to get elected then don't do squat (like the Dem's since November) and people on both side are getting pissed. There has got to be a way to keep these people in check across the board. If it's good enough for the president why not hold the rest to the same standard. How many Billions of tax dollars are pissed away on their retirement and salaries each year and on their "pet projects" that none of us have asked for, not to mention time wasted on amendments and non-binding bullshit.

I think Term limits would be a good idea.

However, I think you will continually see strong opposition for a variety of reasons.

It would shorten the political careers of those who serve, which is one of the main reasons it's unpopular. Some see it as unconstitutional and feel that there already is sufficient turnover without term limits. There is also a perception that tenure automatically equals wisdom. Creating an atmosphere of doubt in continually re-electing public servants who are wet behind the ears. I myself think there are many examples that impugn that supposition.

McCain hated the idea of term limits. It was "unconstitutional".

It shows, huh?

LMAO @ McCain using the constitution to defend term limits yet ignoring it with amnesty.

I'm brilliant!:D

Why would washington want them? Clearly when you have guys like Robert Byrd still in office there is a very serious problem. But it is the clubhouse mentality that these jerkoffs suffer from that will stop any attempts for meaningful legislation.

I can see an NFL style program going on where each side can name franchise players, and have unrestricted and restricted free agents that can only be voted out after a certain period of time or number of seasons;)
