I dont really want a folding stock but a 30 or 40 round banana clip would be nice. I paid 5 bucks for 20 round boxes at Ammo Depot and I priced them at walmart and it was 23.XX for 40 I was like

And just think, you're still on the cheap side of the hobby.

And just think, you're still on the cheap side of the hobby. There's no "cheap" side to the hobby, only a "not quite as expensive" side. :(

Load your own. You won't save any money, but you'll be able to shoot more for your dollar.

once you start buying stamps everything else is cheap. Glad you found something that will keep your interest and is "realitively" cheap. I love blasting cheap surplus ammo through my AK.
I'm still deciding weather or not to put a can on my HK USP .45 That's a little more on the expensive side.

My dad has a browning .22 but I know he wont sell it to me

LOL so you are saying each round will cost less but I will end up shooting more so I wont save any thats funny.....what all is involved in loading your own rounds?

You need a press, dies, powder, primers and bullets. There are little hand presses that you drive them together with only a hammer, the whole thing folds into a little box that fits in your pocket. Go with a Lee Anniversary kit for now, if you enjoy it you can branch out, if not you have less than a bill into it and you can sell it off for some of that back. Two other good starter kits are the RCBS and the Lyman. I would steer clear of progressives until you get a handle on what you want out of it. You'll always find some use for the single stage press anyhow.

Your not gonna wanna handload for a SKS you are going to be shooting 30 round clips through...especially with a single stage press! Stick to surplus ammo....especially for a gun like that! Have fun

Buy wolf at a gun show. One of the cheapest you'll find. Sometimes in the 80-90 dollar range a 1000 rounds

Are they hard to modify from a stripper clip to a mag feed? I know they also have feed problems when converted. I thought about getting one, but fuck a top loaded stripper clip. Id rather just spend more on an AK.

Just got into the hobby myself. Bought a Rock River ar15 a few weeks back (Tactical CAR A4) chambered in .223 and have gone through 1000+ rounds already  . Ive been to the bass pro rifle range 3 times now for 2 hours each and have gotten better each time! Now I can make a decent group with open sights at 150 feet  .

Go buy a AK or a SKS Model D.
Model D's are factory SKS's that were designed to take the AK-47 Magazine. (They don't jamb - But it will cost you as much or more than a AK-47 for the gun). They are rare.

I picked up 10 boxes of wolf 20 count 7.62x39 for 3.79 a box at true value :D
Be careful with the Model 700's. There are more than a few wrongful death suits against Remington right now because they have faulty safeties. I'd hunt down a push-feed Winchester Model 70 over that. Savage and Ruger both have pretty good bolt actions now, too.
