Just got back from purchasing my first handgun, a Rock Island 1911. I can't wait to get out to the range and run some rounds through it. Bought a new set of grips already, and am probably going to order some stuff from Wilson Combat after I take it to the range. Well, actually, definetly buying the spring kit. This isn't the first handgun I ever fired or nothing, its just the first one that I bought with my money. Most guns I've owned came fom my Dad. So yep, next stop, CHL class as soon as I get a break from my job.

Nice! But shoot a few thousand rounds through it before modding it. It's not like you bought a stock Mustang to go drag racing.

Yeah, I want to shoot it for awhile to see if I should even bother with upgrading somethings on it. Although, a recoil spring will probably be ordered just so I don't have to worry about it. Its the only negative thing I've really heard about this brand of 1911. Yeah, as soon as I find my camera, pics will be on the way.

Actually a family memeber told me how to machine one very simply. But I'd rather not.

Actually, one can make a silence/destructive device/short barreled rifle all they want. The registry is open on those item. so all one has to do is Form 1 it etc.

LOL. You know I would almost ask why would have to tell me that, but then I thought about all the lesser educated people around here and figured it was ok. Luckily I grew up around guns and was military brat, plus the fact I'm in the military gives me that little extra awareness about firearms. Nothing disappoints me more than someone not being mature or respectful of their guns.

Hey Good_Ole_Red, explain more on this Form 1 deal, I kinda got the basic idea of it, but was wanting to know more. Does that also include converting rifles to full auto?

Would a silencer really do that much good on a 1911?

You can Form 1 anything, but machine guns or converting guns into machine guns. The registry is still open on Destructive Devices, Supressors, AOWs, and SBR/SBS. No regular schmo can Form 1 a machine gun, unless that gun is a registered Dewat gun. Other than that, new machine guns are limited to licensed manufacturers only and can only be owned by the original manufacturer or licensed seller with proper LEO paperwork.

Kind of wierd how destructive devices can be made and registered constantly and MGs cannot. When a DD can do a lot more damage....
