how do you convert a dvd to your ipod...

There is software you need to download. Some of it is for a cost and they will not be able to rip all DVD's.. Let me see if I can find what I used..

What i have done is rip a DVD to a MPEG and then convert the MPEG.

This is what I used.. It took a while to rip and convert, but worked.

That's basically it. MPEG 4 format.

It's not really as hard as it looks, but depending on your computer may just take time. Not that you have to sit there and watch it either. You just start it up and walk away.

I just can't see paying $10 for movies I already have and will only be able to see on the iPod.

Yea, I typed wrong, DVD to AVI, and then AVI to MPEG 4. I just saw what I typed in your quote. I looked like an idiot.

I am going to take this opportunity and state that ITUNES BLOWS MONKEY NUTS.
OK I feel better. I was so glad when my stepson moved out and I uninstalled that crap.

You could just use the Windows version of Handbrake (http://www.methodshop.com/2006/02/handbrake-for-windows.shtml). Get AnyDVD (for pay), or DVD43 (for free), and you should be able to rip/encode any DVD, even the newest releases.
