Are these any good? Saw one advertised in the Cabelas ad for $399. Hell of a good deal if its any good. Supposedly they make good AR-15's and such too. Should I make this my next purchase?

Hmm...I"ll have to check the ad again. Ok, with the probability of it being a Rock Island 1911, are those any good?

The rock river 1911's are quite the gun for the price. It's prob gunna be one of my next guns. Only thing some guys are doing is putting a stronger recoil spring in and shootin the shit out of it. They are starting to be quite the popular gun. Cabella's i guess is the first ive ever heard of a big chain getting them.

sorry meant to type island not river. Alot of the guys on the 1911 board love em. For as cheap as they are they make great reliable plinkers. From what i've read on them they are about as gi spec as you can get. Some people have jaming issues with them with the stock recoil spring but once thats replaced they seem to have no issues besides crappy sights and the cost of ammo that can be blasted down range with them.

So just replace the recoil spring then...hmm...I'll think about it. Thanks for the advice.

Think about what? The 1911 is one of the easiest pistols to work on ever. A recoil spring is about $6. Man up.

It ain't the spring that I'm having ot think about. Its merely a debate of car parts vs. firearms...and boy do these debates suck.

Yep, best way to make a decision. And for a bonus, it's totally foolproof. So now the question is where can I find alot of good 1911 parts at?

I own a Rock Island .45. It is a solid pistol for a solid price. Check out 1911forum.com and other 1911 sites. There are owners who have put thousands or rounds through them without a failure, nuff said. Now is it a custom 1911, no. It is not prices as one either. It is solid though. And if costomer service is on the list of things you want then RIA will not disappoint you. Great warranty and customer service to boot. There are actual reps from RIA who are posters on the forums and are quick to answer questions and quick to fix any problems you have. That says alot about the company as a whole.

http://www.classicarms.us/ <-- this guy sells em for $359. If you can find a local FFL that will do a cheap transfer, that looks like the way to go.
