Was online and a storm caused the power to go out. When it came back on I turned the computer back on and everything seemed fine until Windows XP loaded and now my user account is gone. We have 2 user accounts on the computer. One that is what I use and is the system admin and the other is for my son. Mine is now gone and the only way my computer boots up is with my sons account. I cannot see my desktop items or my favorites in IE7. I tried logging off and switching users, but there is only one and it is my sons. I tried system restore as well. Didnt work. Any advice on how to get my user account back?

Right after you see the post screen (The one that shows the the manufacturer's logo), press the F8 key at the top of your keyboard. Press it a couple of times to be sure it takes. You should get a boot options page. Select Safe Mode. It will show you a bunch of crap and then show a login screen. You should see your account and an account named Administrator. Click the one for Administrator and enter a password if there is one. If not, use any account that says computer administrator by it. When you get in, go to the Control Panel and open User Accounts. If your account shows here, you're still good. Click on it and be sure that it is still enabled, etc. Otherwise, go back to the User Accounts screen and click Change the way users log on/off and be sure that Use the Welcome screen is checked. If none of this works, the account may be hosed. Recreate it and the browse to C:\Documents and Settings\%Username% and see if there are folders there like Desktop, etc.
PM me if you need more help.

Try that again, but boot into "last known good configuration".
The admin account shouldn't be MIA.
Sounds fishy. :(

It now says that my sons account is the admin. I will try your suggestion in a bit.

Browse your C drive and look in the Documents and Settings folder and see if there is a folder with the name of your old account. If it is gone your are fucked. If it is there then just create a new account and use the File and Settings Transfer Wizard. In Accessories>System tools. This will transfer all your settings etc to your "new" account. Just point the wizard at the files name after your "old" account.

Or When ur accounts come up or just your son's account comes up hit CTRL-ALT Delete twice and you should get a login box type "administrator" in the username and then your password if u have one.
