It is a freaking pain to get upstream and downstream rates from each provider. Should I worry abotu the upstream rates, because Verizon FiOS is only 2Mbps. When I looked at Road Runner I only found the download rate, 7Mbps, anyone know of the upload rate?

FiOS - $39.99\month
RR - $44.99\month

EDIT: The upload rate on the Road Runner 7Mbps is 512Kbps. The 10Mbps is 1Mbps upload. :o

my advise to anyone who has Fios as an option is get it. mine has been up and running for 4 months uninterupted. i was lucky to get 2 weeks while using RR or comcast. plus as you stated and in most areas its faster and cheaper at the same time. cant argue with that

So the upload rate is good enough for gaming? I dont really know how much is actually needed.

fios has one of the best non commercial upstream rates period. i have 15mbps down and i've never had a problem with upstream. you'll never go back once you get it

FIOS exceeds my SLA. I could never talk bad about it so far. Tech support is good compared to other ISPs as well.

you have way more than enff for games. you don't need much.

redhornet has fios and I have SBC elite internet.

He usually pings 2 to 3 and I ping from 9 to 13.

I know stuff happens, but in my case I'd make FIOS being available or unavailable a factor in moving. A good deal is a good deal, that's what it would only be a factor...but damn it is nice.
ive had a ping of 0 before while playing BF2 at the house
]

Wow really?!? How did you overcome the technicalities involved with that? I mean, did you just shoot packets directly to the server without involving your router, the Internet backbone routers and such? What about your PC and the server processing the ICMP requests and replies? How did you overcome the latency involved there?

Technically impossible for 0ms ping time, regardless of what some app tells you.

Take care,

i realized that's not technically possible, I'm not retarded, its just what game said my ping was. realistically it would be 1-2ms

i understand the basics on the internet i was trained as a CCNA but didnt take the test because i decided i wanted to do something else as a career

i was simply stating the only issue ive had with fios

Um where are you getting FIOS for $39.99 / month? I am getting RR for $29.99 but from what I am reading they are apparently not that great?

Send me a link and I will take advantage of the no contract deal I have and switch to FIOS real quick.

Well, I'm paying 49.99 for 15/2 so I could see 5/2 being 39.99 or less. Just give verizon a call.

Never mind, went online to their site and my address cannot be listed. I have read very mixed reviews. Some people are totally getting raped, others are loving it. My install date is this Friday...no harm is trying it out. I used to have Charter when I lived with my parents couple of years ago...cable would go out every night between 1am and 3am...other than that no probs. So hopefully this will be the same.

I just want to play Insurgency with a ping less than 250ms. Its so hard to hit a dirka when I am skipping like a pansy in a pink skirt.

As long as you're not doing something fgt ( which u prob are ) like bit torrenting you'll be fine with no matter what connection you get. Latency is what you want to look at, not bandwidth. Online gaming is going to be between you and the server hosting, in many cases even fucking dialup will be fine, its not like you need a lot of bandwidth to play candyland anyway.
