...Is it pronounced My See-Quil or My S-Q-L?? I've always read it at S-Q-L but the database admin here keeps saying it as See-Quil. I know that's a silly question, but I've always wondered the proper pronunciation of that and Wiki didn't have it. TIA!

BTW, I just read in a MySQL reference manual that no one even knows where the phrase "MySQL" came from! They think it either came from using "my" in front of file names or came from a developer's (creator's?) daughter named "My."

The official way to pronounce “MySQL” is “My Ess Que Ell” (not “my sequel”), but we don't mind if you pronounce it as “my sequel” or in some other localized way.

Codd invented a relational language back in the 70s which Chamberlain and Boyce (IBM) used to create Structured English Query Language (SEQUEL). Unfortunately for them the name was already trademarked and they shortened it to SQL but still pronouned sequel.
I use either variety depending on my audience. "Geeks" I typically say see-quill, "non-geeks" I typically say Ess Que Ell.
