well i want a gun that i can sit at the range and shoot alot of rounds through for fairly cheap. i know .22 is the cheapest, but thats not really what i was looking for. i am leaning more towards a 9mm due to the fact you can pick up the rounds at a reasonable price. thanks for any input.

Get a 9mm in a popular brand. Expect to pay $400-500 for a good one. A used one will run around $350-450.

their website says MSRP is $503.00??? Is MSRP on guns that far off of the real sale price?

I own one of these, and it is one of the best 9mm out there. This is coming from a ex glock owner g32.

Just do what you're going to do anyway. Your going to slightly remember the advice. Then you're going to look in the glass case and say "oooh, that looks cool" and hold a few of those types. Then you may make a mental note of what felt good in your hands....then you're going to weigh price against slightly remembered advice, what looks cool and what might've felt good.
:) Truthfully, I think propellerhead really hit the nail on the head on one advice thread awhile ago. Get what feels good and trying to shoot with others prior to buying so you know for sure.
Take care,

No first hand experience with those, but I wasn't familiar with them so I googled em and this came up: http://www.tacapp.com/?p=53
Pretty much the entire first page of google hits are similar stories. Most apply to the .45ACP and according to the article linked to above, it's much more uncommon un 9mm and .40S&W, but it's something to think about.

No one has recommended a DA revolver so I will. Simple, reliable, very well-mannered at the range, as powerful as you want, great for the reloader and generally cheap (especially used).
I'd recommend making a mental list of pros and cons wheelgun vs bottom-feeder before even considering a caliber.

That has all the earmarks of magazine issues, especially follower design. Some CZs (and clones) have issues with the same thing, especially with heavy bullets. A new/different mag seems to fix them.

Ya, a couple of guys like 10000 posts down on that blog "fixed" the nose-diving issue by trimming the front of the magazine and one guy bent his mag spring to square the follower up to fix his stovepiping (he measured an 18 degree forward (upward) angle with the unmodified spring.)
Casper makes a good point... a 357mag wheel gun is hard to argue against. You can shoot the light, cheap .38 specials for plinking, then load it with some nasty .357s for everything else. If someone wants to argue about reloading speed, I'll have to dig up the Jerry Miculek video... :D Ahh what the hell, it's been a while, I'll dig it up anyway... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giSaNiQ-Wb4 It's a .45 ACP wheel gun. 6 shots, reload, 6 shots 2.99 seconds! :D My dad used to tell me "Son, if you can't get the job done in 6 shots, you don't need to be shootin' at it." I don't necessarily agree, but there is merit to it on some levels.
I love my Beretta 92fs Inox (mid 90s italian gun, metal controls.) There are lighter, better, harder hitting guns out there, but it has been rock solid reliable and very consistent and accurate. A full size gun with the relatively small caliber makes it super easy to shoot, and there is almost no muzzle flip, so second shot site picture is extremely fast and easy to aquire. That's my only complaint about the light polymer guns. (He was talking range plinker, not a carry gun.) You can pick up the blued versions used in the $300- $400 range. The government rates the barrels at 30,000 rounds, so they'll take a beating.
If I were going to own one pistol and one pistol only, it probably wouldn't be the 92, cause it's too big/heavy to concealed carry well, and I'd probably want a bigger caliber (that's a whole other discussion.) But it's a great, fun, reliable, ubiquitous, easy gun to shoot/disassemble/clean, etc.

i have a hi-point .45
cheap gun, paid, $149. life time warranty.
ive put hundreds of rounds through it and shoot great still.
I have many hi dollar guns and was kinda worried about this one but so far so good.
look for a SKS, they have many options for them, i got all my stuff from atigunstocks.com, black sinthetic stock and scope, great gun.
I bought a Mosan Nagant and tricked it all out with everything from ati also. it shoots a 7.39x54r. its a big round, great for hogs.

How much money do you have to work with?
I personally like glocks for autos but, I like my wheel guns too. I have more revolvers than autos.

That problem has pretty much been resolved with the new Pro's that came out this year. I have a 9mm, and have put 1000's of rounds with no hiccups. I would stick with 9mm or a 40, leave the 45's up to the 1911's.

I think Smith & Wesson has at least a 7-shot.
I got a Llama Comanche III in .357 Magnum for $250 a few weeks ago. No problems yet. Dan Wesson makes a heck of a good revolver, too.

I would stick to name brand revolvers (S&W, Ruger, Colt) if you ever plan on getting your money out of them if you ever sell them unless you find one dirt cheap. Taurus makes a decent S&W knock off but the fit and finish just isnt the same. Dan Wessons are ok but they just dont have much value. If you can find one for 150 though.
I own a S&W Model 19-3, Ruger old model Blackhawk, and a Ruger Single Six. They are all good guns. The Blackhawk is the one I will never sell though.
I have owned Taurus revolvers too but have sold them.

wheelguns definitely don't hold value except in certain cases. Don't buy one and plan on selling it, buy one and plan on keeping it.

.22LR Browning pistol.
Walther, Beretta, or other would work too.
.22LR make great plinkers and varmint guns.
If you want more caliber, get a single action semi-auto. Double-action doesn't provide much accuracy for plinking. 5in or 6in barrel.

I have read the letters to ammo dealers and nothing is going up more than 20%. I would buy a 9mm no problem. In fact I am looking for a 9mm conversion barrel for my glock 22. I wouldnt worry about 9mm supplies.
