Went to Academy today in Arlington.
At the gun counter they have a sign that says you must be 21 or older to look at tactical rifles.
One kid at the counter said he thought it was a new state law and another guy had to tell him it was just a new store policy.
Bunch of bs.

That's ridiculous! A semi-auto rifle is a fucking semi-auto rifle.

*I realize that most of you realize this, but not everybody was endowed with a fully-functional brain.

Yeah but if it has rails on it it must be tactikool.

Did you ever think that maybe they just got their fill of gangstas wanting to get a cell phone pic with their hands around a big gun? Its about weeding out the queers. They shoot like girls anyways :D

But what about the 18-20 364/365 year olds that are genuinely interested in buying one? Would you buy a gun without first holding it?

I wonder if flashing some plastic or some cash might get a quick waiver to that...

It is also 21 to purchase not just to look at it.

I work at a different one and I told them that was complete BS when I saw that email. They do the same thing for the JIC Mossberg Shottie that comes only with a pistol grip. Another store policy that goes beyond what the law says that if someone gets delayed by NICS they will not sell the gun untill they get a responce from NICS regardless of the length of time.(I believe the law says if the FFL doesnt hear from NICS within 3 days they can sell the firearm)

so there for it really doesnt make a difference since you have to be 21 to either buy or look at it........

That sounds like crap. But I'm really into letting the market rule, and so maybe they'll change due to market forces. I doubt it, but maybe.

I guess if I was 18-20 364 then this might be an issue for me...but since I am several years older than that, it doesn't matter.

This kind of issue falls along the lines of the same age range can die for their country, but can't have a beer...once you hit that magic age, it just doesn't matter anymore.

If you are over 21 and don't agree with this policy, shop somewhere else. That's the beautiful thing about living in a free country. You have the ability to choose where to shop, be it for policy reasons or price reasons...

I thought 18 could buy a shotgun or rifle just not a pistol?

<----- Hadn't been under 21 in a long time :(

The 21 to purchase an assault rifle is an academy policy not a law(the law is 18), same with the JIC Mossberg. I think both policies are junk, but the one for the mossberg is just plain stupid. For those of you who havent seen it the JIC Mossberg 500 comes with only a pistol grip and no full stock, so this is their reasoning for only selling it to 21+. However we can sell a regular 500 that comes with a full stock and a pistol grip in the box to 18+.

I am aware of that. I guess he could:
A. Shop somewhere else that is more friendly to firearm owners / purchasers.
B. Complain to Academy about the policy.
C. Have his mom get it for him.
D. Cry.
