Hooking up laptop HD to desktop

I'm trying to retrieve info off a laptop HD that I think is bad. To hook it up to my desk top, is it as simple as buying one of those Laptop to IDE cables like this one:

I plan on disconnecting one of my Cd-Rom's and using that IDE cable. Will this work?

Sure, as long as your PC has an open IDE slot. Most modern PCs use SATA though.

I use the one from frys. Its like 9$ bucks if you want it today.
