Yeah but this thing looks better. And for a little more you can get the digital gauges and a few other things. I would buy the Hyosung GT250R or a Buell Blast before the Ninja 250 - the ninja is just too 90's looking.

Yeah, because Hyosung dealers are all over the place when you need parts!

A quick search of their website shows 6 dealers in a 100 mile radius of the metroplex, including Cowtown PowerSports. Shouldn't be too difficult to find parts, until they go out of business!

That's what I'm talking about, they might not be around for too long, or last as long as an EX250. For a first bike, you don't want to worry about reliability, parts, etc, just hop on and ride. With an EX250, you can do that, why take a chance with soemthing else? Even if it isn't the best looking bike, most 250 owners step-up to 600cc sportbikes or soemthing else within a year, so who cares what you ride while you are elarning the basics of motorcycling?

Great! What if the company doesn't exist in 6-8 months? You think the resale will be as good as an EX250 is? I think most bikes have a 1 year warranty anyway, with another 3 years/unlimited miles available for extra $$. Do you want to worry about an unknown bike with Chinese parts on it on the highway and in the corners while your wife is riding it? I think that same company started-out making pocket bikes, you know, the ones that litter garages everywhere that no longer run? It's your choice, but with the price being the same, and I'd put money on 1-2 years down the road resale being better with the EX250, why take a chance?

Hyosung began producing Suzuki motorcycle designs under license for the Korean market in Changwon, South Korea in 1979. In 1986, they established their own research and development center in Hamamatsu, Japan, and the next year, they began mass production of their own designs. They were the official motorcycle supplier for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, and they sell a shit load of these over seas (50,000+ a year) so I dont think they are going anywhere anytime soon.

Shit, sounds great! Those bikes should practically sell themselves! I bet the resale is awesome too.

as mattb said, resale on the ugly ninja will be better. You can buy a used one, ride it for a year and sell it for the same price. She'll probably drop it, scratch it or mess it up somehow, so it will wind up ugly in the end anyhow. Regardless, its your money and you are welcome to waste it anyway you see fit.

Well guys I'm not a bike person in any way, so when I did some searching this bike came up and it looked good for the money.

What I'm asking is what's a good bike for a small girl ?
I don't care who makes it or how fast it is, the fact is that she needs to be able to ride it. If it falls apart in a year I guess she'll just have to buy another one.

SO post up year make and models

Thanks

The Ninja might be a fantastic bike but damn is it hideous. But then again all the smaller cc bikes look bunk. I did however see this 2000 Buell Blast that was pretty neat....

for someone that isn't interested in power, its hard to beat the baby ninja for what you pay for it, even if its new. i know a guy that bought a beautiful one with 2500 miles that basically just needed tires and a tuneup for $700.

If kawasaki can build the zx-6r, that looks like a modern bike, why can't they make a 250 look like a modern bike.

Just to keep the costs down. A redesign would really cost them a lot of $$, and there's really not much profit margin in the small bikes. Hell, look at the smaller cc "XR"(now renamed CRF) series of Honda off-road bikes, most of those designs are decades old!

fuck yeah.. i'd go with a hyosung. My wife has expressed interest in learning how to ride after the kid's born, just for cruising around a little bit and tagging along on some of the rides i go on occasionally. That bike looks like something I'd roll on. The plan was to find a used ninja250 but now i might have to pick me up a used hyosung next spring when she's ready to start riding.

I think what this comes down to is how safe do you feel letting your girl get on a bike that has no track record. If it were my girl, she would ride the Ninja before she rode anything, I know Kawasaki put it together well and didn't short cut anything to save a buck.

I actually think the flamed 250 is a descent looking bike with years of experience behind it. ;)

Maybe after there out 5-10 years and I know nobody has complained about the brakes falling off or the steering delivering an incredible amount of headshake I would consider one as a begginer bike, but not a year before then.......

They have. They call it the ZZR250 or something like that, they just don't offer it hear. It looks like a baby version of the ZZR600 that we have here. We don't get it but Canada does.

There is a dealer here in Longview that sells those Hyosung bikes. He can get you pretty good deal on one. They have been selling here for at least 3 years. I would go ahead and get the 650 GT. It is the same size, but a little more motor in case you wanted to ride it. It definitely won't run with the rest of the crotch rockets, but they are fun to ride. I did a search on some of the motorcycle forums a few years ago and I think the only downfall I saw on them was the desire for better brakes. The people saying this were used to really throwing their bikes around, so a beginner bike wouldn't be as good for them.

Can you guys recommend a place where we can see different brands and models.
I was told just to go and buy a used bike since its going to be her first one.
What should I look for when buying a used bike ? and would a 600 be okay for a small girl ?

find her an older suzuki sv650. great bike for a beginner. plus you can get parts for and aftermarket parts are avail if you need to lower it or whatever.

The SV650 or the sv650s would be perfect. You can find a used one for $3500-$4500. Light enough bike and it has just enough power and looks pretty decent..

I wouldn't own an off brand bike to save my life. Freinds don't let freinds ride off brand bikes!

Another vote for a preowned Suzuki SV650. Great bike for the street beginner, plus huge aftermarket support w/ accessories, parts, club forums, etc. They've already achieved cult status in terms of their value and performance.

I actually went to the dealer in Longview today and looked at them, and they look pretty well built and dont sound bad at all for a V-twin. They only had a GT250R there, but it and the GT650R are the same size, the only difference is the frame is tubular on the 650, and the 650 is like 1/2" shorter in height. I sat on the 250, and I am 5'10, and I couldnt quit stand flat footed. But the bike did feel pretty balanced and lightweight, and I would have a problem riding one(felt about the same as an R1 as for sitting position). I talked to them about getting me a GT650R, but the only ones available right now are 07's and all he can get thats left are red, but I want black or yellow. The 08's will be out soon and will be the same price as the 07's(GT650R is like $5500 from him).

I have no special bonds to any company, be it cars, trucks, or bikes. And I am willing to give anything new out there a try. If I buy one and dont like it, then I can always sell it and get something else. The price is not an issue, it is a good looking bike, and from what Ive read while researching them, they are a good product with a growing aftermarket of parts if one wants to modify them.

buy one of these. more money but infinitely better than that chinese bullshit. i was thinking about one but i dont have the money right now.

i know you want a beginner bike and this one looks kind of intimidating for a beginner bike but it was designed with a beginner rider in mind. smooth power curve, lower seat height and a more upright riding position than the other sportbikes out there. if you're going to buy a toy like this you probably want to buy one that she's gonna want to ride.
