Last night was my first real motorcycle accident....it fucking sucked....I'm too sore still to keep typing much but I really wish people in cars would pay more attention.....I'm so lucky to be alive and lucky I didn't lose my foot last night. The people at the hospital said they get soooo many motorcycle accident cases.....so please people pay fucking attention...we're out there and don't like hitting the ground

Here's the story...

I was riding home from starbucks about 10:15 last night, wife was a few minutes behind me picking up some mcdonalds for dinner. Cruising west down western center in the right lane and went under 35....spot a silver BMW pulling up the the right-turn yield to get onto western center. He slows, he stops, then whenever I'm about 25 feet away...he pulls out. I make an emergency lane-change, but then I see him actually cutting into that lane. By this time it was too late to do much of anything. I grabbed both brakes pretty hard, felt the tail start to come up and let off the front brake slightly, but at this point I was turned slightly...back brake locked, bike slammed down on my hip and my helmet hit the ground. I don't remember anything else for the next second or so, but the next thing I knew I had rolled a few times and saw my bike still sliding down western center, and the BMW driving off. Nothing even hurt at first....I was just happy I was still alive. I tossed my backpack into the median and ran to pick up my bike. I got it up and it wouldn't start at first so I pushed it next to the curb. A bunch of people stopped to help me, one of which asked if i wanted them to go get his tag. They came back and told me he was in the whataburger parking lot. I picked up my shit and got back on my bike...luckily it started this time, so i rode into the whataburger lot and stopped the guy. He said he never even saw me. We settled everything and I thought I was okay...the wife got there and helped me....then I called my buddy and my boss and both of them helped me get my bike and tattered ass home. As the adrenaline started to wear off....EVERYTHING started to hurt. I didn't realize how hard my hip and knee had gotten smashed. Ended up at the hospital for 5 hours...X-rays, CT scans, etc. Thank God nothing broken, no internal bleeding, just a bit of rash and bruising. Scary thing was that my set got me in the foot, i'm lucky it didn't puncture it. I'm just happy to be in one piece. It was one of the few times I've ever not worn my jacket...and I paid for it. Next time I ride i'm wearing boots and jacket every time. And that helmet saved my life...a 40 mph head slam could have sucked. Today I'm just sooo sore. And the rash bites.

Motorcycle accidents...definitely not high on my list of things to do more than once. The people at the hospital said I was very lucky....that I didn't fracture my pelvis...they also said I should have come in an ambulance based on the severity of the impact on my hip. Anyway I'm still sore as a mofo, i'm going to eat dinner and take some more medicine.

Wow, like you cant be hurt in a car wreck. So remember you above statement when someone pulls out in front of you and you hit them in your car. Be sure to post up on here so everyone can say well dont get your dumbass in a car, simple as that, cars are dangerous. It sounds like the guy on the bike was wearing gear and not acting a fool.

Sorry to hear you wrecked your bike man, glad you are ok.

WTF kind of statement is this? It's dumbass drivers that don't pay attention to what the fuck is going on around them that is biggest threat to motorcyclist. Now get the fuck out of this forum and go talk your trash somewhere else.

Yeah i appreciate the thought everyone...except notchedstang....I'm sure u'll never ever get hurt in a car...it would have sucked in my stang too though. Again, I feel like I made out like a bandit with nothing broken. I wish I woulda been wearing my jacket to save myself from 50% of the road rash, not that it would have saved my hip from some bruising majoro. This just proved to me....it doesn't matter how careful you are...shit happens. I did everything I was taught and still got a bit hurt...but at least I'm still here. And I can't help but think how bad it would have sucked if I had hammered it under the bridge...coulda been going 90 instead of 50...stupid prolly woulda killed me. Everything happens for a reason...I learned a lot from this, so maybe it was meant to be. And hell yeah i'll be back up on 2 wheels whenever I get un-sore and un-rashed, just need a new helmet and want to pick up some Sidi boots so I can protect my feet and ankles a little more. Thanks for the thought everyone just pay attention and be safe out there! Hospital bills are a biznatch and you only have one body!

well alteast i'll have metal surrounding me in a car instead of nothing on a bike, i think the kill ratio on a bike is alittle higher then inside of a car.

I think its pointless to cry about being hurt on a motorcyle, well wtf do you think is gonna happen you live in dallas and riding a bike. i mean c'mon doesnt take a genius to figure that one out.

Well I had one friend die in a car accident and one friend quadraplegic from the same one, cock clown. And I'm not crying, I'm telling my story and stating that I learned from it and dumbfuck cagers like yourself don't pay any attention when you're driving. Thats all I'm saying. glad to hear your OK man. a jacket probably would have helped, but you know that. i know ive gone with out mine once or twice and even wore shots once when i was a newbie rider. get yourself healed up and back on the road.

and notchedstang go spew your uneducated rhetoric somewhere else. I drive a semi and i cant count how many people just pull right out in front of me like im not there. cagers just don't fucking look most of the time. they are too caught up in their own lives to care about anyone else on the road. and just as an example if my truck was to hit your car doing 50 that metal your in wont do shit for you except make it harder for the fire crew to get to your body. the streets are not safe regardless of what your in or on. you might as well get some enjoyment of being on the road while your out there.

and thats not even how i really feel, if i said what i wanted to you id get a 5-7 day vacation and your not worth it

Motorcycle accidents...definitely not high on my list of things to do more than once.
that's what i said after my first wreck.

i too wasn't wearing a jacket (helmet saved my life though) during my first wreck, it always seems to work out that way. at least you learned to always wear your gear no matter how close or far you are going. my gear saved me from a lot of painful road rash after my second accident. just be careful out there and get to feeling better.

ohh and to add one last thing. i never ride in the right lane if i can avoid it. a friend's dad had a pretty nasty accident from your same scenario. the lesson i learned from him is to never ride in right lane. they always seem to say "I have never him coming" and get away with little or no damage or consequences. so maybe everyone will learn from your post to not ride in the right lane if you can avoid it.

The guy in the bimmer is a business type, paying for everything. I'm tired of responding to notchedstang's stupidity so enough of that---somebody pulled out in front of MMMEEEE, not the other way. Try some reading rainbow or something dumbass, you obviously lack any comprehension skills. And i personally believe that anyone who can't spell "BRAKES" is an idiot....not anyone on a sportbike....dipshit.

Eviljose---the gloves are the Joe Rocket ones with the GSXR logo on the wrist and the plastic knuckle protectors. They held up great, as did my helmet. My hands definitely woulda been thrashed if I wasn't wearing gloves. All the reinforced parts of the gloves were what hit...guess they're designed that way, lol. And my helmet lost a few chunks where my head hit the ground but it definitely saved me. Bike got more fucked up than I thought though :( My buddy told me last night that it didn't feel right at all on the way home, he just didn't wanna upset me more right after the wreck. After my hip heals up I'll take it for a test ride and see what I feel...that won't be for a couple of weeks though, at least.

Best luck on a speedy recovery bud!

I had a similar deal, back in 02 on my then 2 week old 02 R1. They 'just didn't see you' because they didn't take the time to CONFIRM it was safe to make a traffic decision. This is always the case, same thing I got.

Funny, since then, I slow at intersections were other vehicles are able to make traffic decisions, and watch. Not fool proof, alas...
