Is there any place online you can still play for money at? That's my biggest problem with online poker, you don't really play the same when there's nothing to lose/gain.

There's a free poker league called APL. Their site is APL Region 535 (http://www.amateurpokerleague.com/region.php?region_id=535&Submit=Go) for the North Texas region. Ran by Doyle Brunson.

On the left column, it lists all the venues around town that offer it. Some give out cash prizes for winners as well. You can qualify for Regionals, then State, then Nationals. I believe cash prizes are available at all 3 of those.

I just started playing a couple of months ago at End Zone in Plano and The Abbey in Frisco. I like it. And its free too.

Russ Martin is having a big fundraiser for fallen police/fire coming up. Think the buy in is $500 though...

It's 10:55 and yes, Russ is still awesome!

My wife and I play in the APL, mainly at End Zone in Plano. My wife won a 3 night Stay st Sam's Town Casino one night playing. They sometimes give away some nice prizes

Only thing worse about it being 12:51pm and Russ Martin still sucking is his lackeys using my original speel and making an unimaginative and unoriginal change to it.

If you are willing to go an extra 40 minutes you can play Choctaw in Durant on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7 pm (reg at 4pm). $50 buy in. They also play a 2pm tourney on both days (reg at 11am).

I used to play APL all the time at Razoos in Lewisville. Not sure if they still have it though. I play online at bodog and I have my checking account registered with them. I basically write an e-check to them. Instant funds :). Sometimes I'll get bored playing online, but if you pull up and play 3 tables you are forced to make decisions quicker instead of waiting 15 minutes to get a good hand. They come around every 3-5 minutes and you don't get bored. But you just have to survey the bets that have been made. The downside to 3 tables is you can't make very many reads (yes, you can read players in online poker, its just as easy as live poker) The big thing is trying to be patient and disciplined. It's good practice for the real games.

Are there any games (APL OR cash games) going on in the Denton/Lewisville area?

APL at Sterling's in Lewisville. I think its on the 121 business road.

Check APL website under Region 535 for venues.
