It wasn't the one I really wanted. Wanted a CRF 80, but I ran across this 2006 TTR 90 with an electric start for 1000.00. Not a hell of a deal, but considering what I have seen them going for, if I don't like it I should be able to get my money back. Has some scrapes from one spill (small) and I had to bend the handle bars back in place. Other than that it's real clean. I just could not pass up the deal. A guy had 2003 CRF 80 that was super clean, but wanted 1200.00 for it. Just could not justify the price.

A quick question........I pulled the air filter off just checking things and this thing was full of grease. Not oil, grease. At least it looked like a mixture of grease and water. I washed it out pretty good but still left oily feeling. Seemed to run a little better. Are they doing it differently now days? Back in the day we washed them good then lightly covered in motor oil or something. But nothing this freaking thick

That is pretty normal. Most people use a foam filter oil which is very very tacky. I clean my filter after every day of riding (if ridden hard). Fair warning wear gloves when applying the new foam filter oil, it is a mess. Just make sure the filter is dry completely before applying the new oil. just apply it all over the filter and squeeze the excess out. On some filters if you twist them while squeezing it may rip the foam.

Learn something new every day. But it runs better with some of it cleaned out. Hell there was a big ass pool of it in the bottom of the filter casing. Just does not seem right to me. But I am old school

No, that is not correct. There shouldnt be that much oil/grease in the intake. Some like to use grease where the filter edge contacts the intake boot. I never have and do not have problems. I use PJ1 foam filter oil since it is a spray on oil. I would clean the carb on the bike as well.

Thank you , that is my point. There is no way this is good for the bike. Plus it runs better. I even had to turn the idle down after cleaning it.

tip for oiling filter, put in a zip lock bag.
sometimes they put grease where the filter seal at.

This stuff was all in the filter. I had the water hose lightly spraying it and squeezing with my hand, globs just kept coming out. Looked like some one just cut the fat off a brisket and left it laying on the ground when I was through.

It probably had never been cleaned before.
Yea id be dropping some sea foam in the carb. That using grease is abuncha horseshit IMO.

Hell, when I finished cleaning it I shot some carb cleaner in it and put it back together. It idled so much better, I had to turn the idle down. Plus warm up time is practically nothing.
