I have never had my own camcorder so figure now is the time. I went to BB just to see whats out there and the guy told me to either go with the miniDV or Hard Drive and to skip the DVD. He said mini DV is here to stay but the DVD camcorders are a fad and wont be around. He said if youre willing to spend the dough, then sure get a hard drive camera. After hearing that, I figure I would just get a miniDV camcorder. Any thoughts? Certain brands to choose or stay away from?
Also any good places to get stuff over the internet? Looking on Ebay showed a potential for getting the exact model for ~40% off compared to the exact same thing at Best Buy
I have had one with the little tapes (miniDV?) and one with the small DVD disks. Both were a pita to convert over to regular DVD and the minidisks didn't always play back on DVD players like the salesman said they would.
The next one I buy will be a hard drive, no doubt about it. In fact, I'll probably go with one of the HD video recorders with a hard drive. There are a few out right now, and they have already come down in price a lot since they first came out.

I have the JVC with the 20gig HD. I only have one complaint, I like to use the camcorder for both stills and video. The one I have takes low resolutions still images. Frys usually puts one of the JVCs in the add every Friday.

Yeah, the guy at BB said a vid camera that takes high res stills is still a few years away.
